| I've seen a few bogus weather delays and cancels in my time. Let's say you have an airplane with a windshield heat MEL. Since one of the conditions of the MEL is "No flight into icing conditions," the flight will have to be canceled if icing is present. This should be an MX cancel, but will go down as a weather cancel. Kinda shady if you ask me.

| Junior Member | I thought it was a pretty good article. I'd guess that about 70% delays today are due to traffic and congestion, spawning from weather...

| Senior Member | The IPHONE part of the article is obviously bogus, as we learned from the young man piloting the space shuttle for the first time hehe. |

| Senior Member | I experienced this last week during my bread and butter run BGM-IAD. IAD was 1/4 SM in FG, VV001 etc, forecast to lift at around 9am (probably all due to the unseasonably warm weather bringing its southern moisture). In BGM, 5:30am, it was clear, cold, dry, basically a beautiful day. Due to the free internet in Binghamton, some of our passengers were pulling up "Meteorologist Friendly's Five Day Forecast" and seeing that it was going to be a beautiful day in IAD... some started calling me on it. Problem solved by explaining to them how if we left now, we'd hold for 2 hours for the fog to lift, and why not just leave right before it gets nice, so that it will BE nice when we land. Unfortunately, I think some passengers think we look at the back of USA today, see a big smiling sun graphic, and determine its good to go!

| Agent Smith | Television news should report the weather and drop the new fangled idea of attempting to track flight delays. NO airport has across the board 30 minute delays, but the talking heads on television like to report, "Today in Boston, 45 minute delays due to fog..." Uh huh.

| Old Skool | My response: "I'm sorry, but you lost all credibility when you mentioned the iPhone commercial. That is 100% bogus. Pilots and dispatchers have access to weather sources much better than what some 15 year old can find on the iPhone his mommy bought him."
