| They were called "Echo" routings when I was at LA TRACON. It's probably "Mike" routings by now.

| Doing my IFR training in Santa Barbara, I used the IFR Tower Enroute routings a lot (yes they're Mike routings now). I think I became spoiled because I expected to always just hop into the plane, call up clearance, and grab a pop up IFR clearance whenever I wanted. Nice photos! |

| By the way, LA Center has a nifty website where you can just look up the routings online! http://www.laartcc.org/tec/index.php |

| Or just call up clearance delivery/ground and ask for "tower enroute to xxx" like I did, and they'll come back with a routing that works for them (and may not necessarily resemble the published routes).

I love the canned routes as well until I hit the east coast and they do not exist. When I flew out of KCRQ (busy class D) i used to just call up ground and tell them where I wanted to go and they would file for me and hand me my nice tec route and off I went. When I got to KBED (very busy class D) i learned day 1 that you do not file anything with ground, it was file your own clearance (just make something up because in the busy east coast corridor they WILL change it) and then pick it up from clearance and off you went. They just arent used up here at all at least for GA. I have flown the same routes alot and everytime would get the clearance changed on me so then I used to just file exactly what they gave me the last flight and then they would change that too so I learned and just filed direct everytime since it never seemed to matter what I planned, I would just copy the crapshoot they gave me.
