Value of ATP certificate?

When you go through training for CA upgrade the check pilot will issue an ATP with type rather than adding a type to an existing ATP. No difference in training, standards, or check.

my recomendation would be to find out what you want to do. For example uf you want fedex or ups to be your goal go fly night freight ( airnet or the such) they will pay for it. If you want to do corporate 91 flying, go fly pax in a 135 job(cape air) then move to a jet 135 pax operation. Then its only a matter of time before johnson&johnson are within grasp. Cape air will pay for the ATP with your 135 check. If you want delta, united, jetblue, a legacy or major national, you have more then enough experience for one of their regionals who will pay for the ATP when you upgrade.

My experience has been through the cape air route and is still on schedule. I am flying a lear now for a great 135 and plan on doing so for the next 5-10 years at which time i will be looking for that 91 job!!! Good luck.

If you've got the money and are proficient in IFR ops, AND are very solid on your systems, why not? I did ATP multi soon after my CFI (single) and found it one of the easiest rides I've even taken. Virtually no oral-the DE explained that at this level, an applicant almost certainly knows his stuff (FWIW I had used this examiner in the past so there was an existing relationship).

Now the ATP SE add on at Flightsafety was an absolute kick in the pants, mostly because they can do lots of things in the sim they can't do in real life (engine fires, assymetric flaps, etc).

And at the end of the day, I only got the ATP for my ego.
