Hi All, Looking for any feedback on ATP flight school. Pros, cons, anything you've got would be a help. In specific I would be looking at their "Regional Jet Standards" course.

If you take the CRJ course twice , you can walk in at any regional as a Captain! |

I have researched most of the schools , and I think ATP is one of the top choices. There is a new school in MS run by all x military instructors. If it were me and my money , Thats were I would be!!!

Great decision to take the RJ transition course. ![]() But anyway-in a slight attempt to be a bit less harsh, if you are going to do an RJ course (which I highly suggest you NOT do such), at least shop around for a course that won't cost you an arm and a leg. If you're paying more than $5000 you've really just shot yourself in the foot and could have gotten some quality ME time for that kind of cash. Then again, it's becoming more obvious every day that some of these airlines don't even want guys to have flying experience.

Not trying to light any fires here, as I know there are many qualified pilots that come from ATP, but when the legacies start hiring in full swing are ATP graduates going to be looked at differently than other applicants? Again, I do not mean anything bad by it, but it seems as though right now regionals are just trying to gobble up applicants, many of which are from ATP's 90 day program. While I understand that they recieved the same ratings as everyone else, I was just curious if their training might not be weighed the same as others. Please no death threats, Im just curious.

I highly doubt it, considering most of the applicants are going to have prior 121 time I dont think if you are applying to a major they are going to even care where you got your commercial but more what type of jet you have a couple thousand hours in. I can just see that now, so you wanna fly this big 787, well where did you get your private? I went to ATP and when I went through my initial 121 training I was ready to be put down about my choice of flight school because of everything I hear on this message board. The instructor was an Ex Continental 777 Capt and ex F4 pilot and he said that he loves working with students from accelerated programs because thats how 121 ground schools are set up. Im sure there are crappy pilots that have come from ATP as well as every other flight school. If you took every pilot coming out of ATP and compared them too all the rest Im pretty sure that the ratio of good to bad pilots is very similar. To the poster: there are pros and cons to ATP just as any other FBO or flight school. Don't believe every bad thing you hear on these message boards about ATP and also don't believe every great thing they tell you on their website. Some people didn't like the experience while I loved it, not many private instrument pilots get to fly a seminole from Los Angeles to Florida and back in their training.

Not the best school to go to if you want to learn those little things like collision avoidance skills and/or how to make simple radio calls... at least at the Phoenix, AZ (actually in Mesa) campus. Almost getting run into by ATP happens at least monthly. From what I've heard from former ATP students... once again speaking of the AZ campus, they're more concerned with making money than training pilots.
