Hey..of those who have gone to a 121 training..did you all have your flight cases before you went to training? I know I'm going to get a fat stack of books on day 1, and am curious as to what I need to bring. I feel sort of lost at this point...and I leave in 2 days!!

The only things in my flight case besides what the company gave me are all things I didn't need during training. -little kleenex packs -manila folder to hold updates and paperwork -ziplock baggie of wetwipes and ear plugs -ziplock baggie of (legal) medical stuff (bandaids, pain relievers, cough and cold, and stomach stuff) -ziplock baggie of food stuff and powdered drink mixes -headset and case -flashlights and glow stick with velcro (hold over from CFI days) -chewing gum -extra TOL cards |

I had mine ahead of time but most people didn't. Any way you can chat with someone from your specific airline? I know here in Houston the hotel van will take you to the stop-over-store, and you have 3 weeks to buy a flight case before FTDs start. Backpacks aren't uncommon at all either even with the flight case, especially since we have to carry around several things that aren't part of the normal flight kit and wont fit (two extra 3 ring binders, spiral notebooks, and sometimes volume 2 of the CFM). The only thing I brought the first day (to corporate orientation) was my certificates, a notebook, and 2 pens. The last hour of the day we met with the instructor who was going to do our first week of ground school and he told us what to bring on day 2. |

Most of us didnt have a flight case prior to starting. A little later in training, you have the time to go the flight store & checkout the choices out there, and choose what you like/what fits you. But for the start of training- just bring something comfortable/that can hold what you need- doesnt have to be a leather flight case unless you want it to be. (Not to mention carrying the heavy bag with one hand around between class vs. a backback for all the back and forth stuff everyday). Just my 2 cents. | |

i brought my flight case to training but it has not been needed. I have just been using the the bag that flightsafety gave me to hold on to my FOM 1, 2 and 3 and a few other various things I have been given. The rest of the useless stuff can stay in the hotel room. During the sim the only thing I bring is my told cards, the QRH (emergency items checklist), checklist and the necessary charts and plates I have needed. I leave all of the other stuff back in the room.

I'm with NC_BE300 above... go with comfort during training. A nice backpack is the way to go until FTD's & SIMS. I felt bad for the guys who's arms were 3 inches longer after lugging around flight cases for 3 weeks! ![]() Bob
