Default Coral Springs FL, Alert area Mid-Air

I just relayed a message for a pilot on guard while on a flight. He said he had witnessed a mid-air collision in the coral springs alert area just north-west of FXE (Ft. Lauderdale Executive). I called my dispatch, and had her call 911. They apparently were unaware of any incident at that time, and dispatched search and rescue.

The pilot relaying the message said there didn't appear to be any survivors.

Staying hopeful that the quick response can save someones life/lives!

CNN just picked it up...the coverage of it looked kinda like ValuJet 592 awhile back with the aerial shots of what looked like the everglades and spotty plane parts strewn about...though the parts that were scattered looked pretty big could be a rudder or tail section or something

RIP

Man that sucks....I was just flying in that area last week. That Ft. Lauderdale - Miami area definitely is some pretty busy airspace......

This practice area is horrible. It's like playing with fire everytime you're out there. Everyone has their full air unit up looking. I fly out of PMP and it's never fun trying to get through that practice area.

Terrible News...RIP...

Everyone else, especially student pilots and CFI's, take this as a lesson. Clearing the area doesn't mean just lifting or turning your head and looking in a general direction...You have to actually scan each part of that sky for traffic, and unfortunately, it's a lot easier said than done.

Trust me, I hear you. I am out there more times without it than with it. I just posted that website the other day about mid-airs and their locations. That area right over Coral Springs already had one on there too.

This is a great reminder for all of us with two comms to always monitor guard when practicable while in-flight.

We were flying from MCO to FXE, and when Miami handed us over to tower, she goes 'are you aware of the TFR you are above'? I was like, no before I left there was nothing. she said it's fine, and it was just issued. I was above it anyways. I noticed bunch of boats (well lights on everglades) so I was wondering what they were looking for. When we landed I found out 2 planes collided there.

I practice in that area, and I know how close you get to each other... RIP to both pilots and the passengers.

I love the media...reporting it as a twin and it's a saratoga...oh well. That's the tail number they're reporting it to be. N766CC

Turns out it was a Twin Comanche. It was filed incorrectly as a Saratoga for this flight for some reason.

Oh...that was you on 121.5? That was me who you were talking to. I watched the wreckage falling from the sky.

Terrible thing to watch unfold so close. The planes looked like confetti falling. For the first minute I even refused to believe it was an aircraft until I saw some numbers and a smoking engine.
