Well, this past saturday was the first REAL-SUPER-FROSTY cold day that we've had in BGM this year. 14º (metar said M08, so I'm thinking 14?) at 5:30am. All 3 of us had to deice (AWAC CRJ-200, Pinnacle CRJ-200 and my saab), covered completely in large amounts of frost. Both the CRJs had to delay their takeoff/taxi due to "minor problems they had to address." On the center frequency later on in flight, they both checked in, late departures. I'm guessing it was something to do with the computers throwing errors, and those just had to be troubleshot? Just curious. Could just be a coincidence. |

You got it! For being made in Canada these birds suck for cold mornings! I have never seen so many weird gremlins on those cold mornings. Once upon a time my PFD was showing MLS in yellow needles (to my knowledge the RJs are NOT MLS equipped). That was one of the funniest ones. Cold starts are a pain too. We learned the hard way one morning that running continuous ignition for a few minutes to warm up the igniters first before start is a good idea |

Yeah, Q400 has some weird stuff for a Canadian bird, too. I remember once sitting for 12 minutes waiting for the engine oil to warm up to 55c so the airfoil anti-ice would work. Odd.

You sure the MLS in yellow needles wasn't just the fact you were cross tuned and picking up the Miles City VORTAC? ![]() The plane does so many strange things when it's cold. I've started to pretty much ignore odd ball CASS messages and what not on the first flights of the day. Probably not a good idea, but if I get one more IAPS DEGRADED message because the gerbils that work the air data computer are cold and haven't warmed up yet... |

Go Figure...The Brazilian Made Jet doesn't really have anything go on in the cold. Maybe it's just that...The Brazilians were sensitive to the issue thinking they had to "prove" to everyone that the plane could handle the cold. ;-)

Although if that doesn't work, have the CA flip the big red switch on his side, go into the MX menu, and look for a bad avionics card. I had 3 planes in one 3 day trip with bad cards. They might as well just put the CBs for FLIGHT SPOILERS FAULT in the QRH, too.
