| Hey guys, I know I should know this but I was never taught this and am going to need to learn it eventually. But when recording tach time and time off the hobbs meter, how do you do the math to write it in the logbook. What im basically trying to say is how do you convert the time?

| Not sure exactly what you are asking but I will take a stab... 1) You usually record the hobbs times for your logbook. For example... 1.2 hours 2) The tach time is usually a function for maintenance only 3) If you are wondering how that breaks down to hours and minutes simply divide 60 minutes by 10 (for tenths of an hour). So 1.2 hours = 1 hour and 12 minutes. Each .1 is exactly 6 minutes. Is that what you were asking?

| if you are looking for a conversion factor between tach and hobbs, hobbs is around 1.25xtach time. the number varies however, because tach is based on revolutions - i.e if we fly the plane for 1 hour at 2700 rpm and 1 hour at 1500 rpm, the tach will indicate differently, even though it flew for 1 hr |

| Old Skool | Just note your time prior to engine start and after engine shutdown. Convert to tenths.

| If your trying to convert tach time for the purpose of what to put in your log book, don't bother. You are legal to log time from when the wheels move for purpose of flight to when the wheels stop moving at the tiedown. You could use your watch to figure it out. There's nothing wrong with that.

| Old Skool | I see what you are saying... I think you log the hobbs meter lets say you get in the plane. note it *lets say its 0408.7* you do your flight and check the hobbs meter again *it says 0409.9* you would log 1.2 in your logbook is that whatcya mean?

| Sorry to bring back an old thread , but someone told me that I could subtract the hobb or tach time at the end from what I started out with and it would give me the answer, is that true?

After the flight, note the hobbs time again. Now, subtract the first reading from the second.

| I'm sorry but you are all wrong. You need to to take the hobbs time and double it, then add that to tach time. take that number, add 6 approaches, holding, 5 hrs actual, and put it in the multi column. hope that helps

| Old Skool | I would hope the CFI is signing it, but I would also hope the student is the one filling it out. (After he is instructed how to, of course.) |

| After the second flight and I knew how to fill out my logbook I never needed someone to fill out MY logbook. The instructor just verified what I had filled in and signed it. |

| That's basically how it worked for me. For that reason, I have some reserved concern for the OP.
