Default PSA Interview Nov 20th

Anyone here got interview with PSA this Thursday? I'll be staying at the Holiday Inn the night before. Anyone interested to get together the night before and share each other things to know about their interview please just hang out by the lobby. I don't get in at Charlotte till 9PM so not sure how this will work, but I think it would be great if we all can meet.

I found this link that have info about an Ellitle MD80 sim . I'm not sure if this is the same one they use, but I think it is.

Apparently they are cause they send me everything I need for it. The application, stuff I need to bring, the ticket etc. I don't know how many people actually accepted the interview date. I'm a little too desperat for this job, so although I love jesus I didn't hesitate to happily accept the call. Same way if they offer me the job I'll take it in a heart beat.

Well if Airplane Crazy gets the job, he really needs to "pay it forward" after that save by hercdriver.

After the second post, I somehow dont think its just a typo.

The sim is very sensitive, but other than that, I dont think there is anything to do to prepare for it. Worry first about the first two phases. Get the gouge on the test. Then RELAX for the interview. I would know holding inside and out and be able to brief ILS 18 (L or R?) "like an airline pilot"

Also, are you really interviewing on Thursday??

Wait... Thanksgiving is a pagen holiday. Not sure what Jesus has to do with that.

I'll second what Jeremy said about not being desperate in the interview. We need people, but not THAT badly.

Either way, good luck.

Ok, I'll ask, what is the difference in briefing like a pilot or like an "airline pilot", or was this a joke about the link to a flightsim board? Its been a long week here.

Eh..... one person in my interview class was told, "you brief this approach like a cessna captain" and he was stumbling all over the place.... Basically just keep it to the point... hit big points... there are some tips out there but no big difference..

I am dead serious. The director of training told me to brief like an airline pilot, as Paul said, at least one guy got told he briefed it like a 172 pilot.

They dont want you to read every item on the plate, they want to hear a brief. I guess it went ok, as I got the job, but it was a little intimidating. If you interview at PSA you should call a buddy in the regionals and have them critique your briefing for the clt 18 ils.

See the top of the Jeppesen plate where it says, "Jeppesen Briefing Strip"?

Read it left to right, mention the minimums and the missed. Works every time.

Well, you're obviously not an airline pilot so we'll make sure we don't listen to THAT little tidbit of advice then eh?

JTrain609 said, "Well, you're obviously not an airline pilot so we'll make sure we don't listen to THAT little tidbit of advice then eh?"

I was only an airline pilot for 13 years... but that is not to say that I can't learn something from an experienced commuter pilot such as yourself.

AOPA Jan02:
For an IFR flight, follow the experts' lead. In 1995, Jeppesen launched a version of its instrument approach charts that included its Briefing Strip — data culled from the approach procedure and placed in a panel at the top of the chart, initially developed by research engineering psychologist M. Steven Huntley and refined by the Air Transport Association, AOPA, and Jeppesen. Jim Terpstra, senior corporate vice president at Jeppesen, points out that this data consists of "the six or seven most important pieces of information" on the chart.

Jeppesen Chart Clinic Mar99:
The Briefing Strip format is designed to be a checklist of some of the most important items
when first studying an approach chart. It has items in addition to the communications data
such as the primary navaid for the approach, the final approach course, field elevation and
procedure identification. The approach procedure identification is shown under the city
name. If the approach has straight-in landing minimums, the straight-in runway will be
included following the approach type.

Maybe i'm just a crazy cowboy corporate pilot, but if you were to identify the procedure, brief the items on the briefing strip, mention required visibility for the approach and any airline specific special considerations I would find that to be a very thorough briefing. (And, for what it's worth, almost verbatim what US Airways required when I left in 2002.

The Jepp briefing strip format is pretty well known by most I would say.

I know the two guys ahead of me got sent home after being asked to brief it. i was asked to brief it "like an airline pilot" and I passed.

Hopefully when my training is over in a couple of months I will know how they want it briefed. My point was, and probably to late to help this guy if he is on the way to charlotte this afternoon, was that he should call a buddy, preferably at psa and see how it should be done and at least have a flow to it.
