Probably the only real-world example I have is from 727 flight engineer initial. The guys that already had an FE and operational experience were given a shortened training program. Even if they hadn't touched a seven-deuce in 5 years, they had a shorter training cycle so they had to come back up to speed very fast.

Those without had a longer program and a little more spoon feeding.

Those that went to one of the weekend courses for the FE ticket, but didn't have actual operational experience got their heinies worked and quite a few had problems.

I see

You can literally walk out of a type rating checkride and not know what the hell you're doing, which is why we have a thing called "IOE" with a check airman for a number of hours.
so, no 5,000 type rating? lol

For a period of time, I think we had at least three, perhaps four different types at my airline just on the 757/767 category alone.

We're down to just two types now, at least internationally. You'll have to ask someone with more experience on the airframe like MDPilot or, *cough* PeanuckleCRJ.

Oh shoot Im having an anet moment. At Southernjets if you have a 764 type are you also typed for the 763 and 757 since some 764s are domestic? Or is it like the 777 type where you only fly that plane. I suppose most 764 guys at one time flew the 763 and 757 however some may have come from the MDs or 737s. Ok moment over

At SJ the 764 guys only fly 764s, and no other pilots fly them.

At the other airline that flies them the '756' pilots fly the 764 along with the 762s and 757s

Ok, here's the dealio.

If you're going to school on the 757/767 or 767-400, you actually do 757/767 ground school and flight training.

If you're a domestic 757/767 pilot, you're done.

If you're going to the "ER"/international, you'll do a long-range navigation school including some international simulator procedures training.

If you're going to the "-400", you'll do "ER"/international school plus -400 differences.

We keep domestic, international and -400 ops as three separate categories entirely.

Got it. So 764 pilots may find themselves doing both domestic and international? The 400 ops have always confused me because the cockpit is similar to the 777 but its in the 767 class of aircraft. I knew CAL types are different but they rarely use the 400s for domestic, minus Hawaii. Now that I think about it CAL and SJ are the only carriers that use the 400.

It's the airline business.

You're thinking too hard!

Sure, you bet, upon payment, they will mail you a CD & you have to log about 80 hours of homestudy.... When you are complete, you will get a class start date

Day 1 of ground school is a test with about 12 other students
If & when you pass, next stage is a couple of days of ground school, followed by another test, if & when you pass, you go on to the device phase (1 or 2 Fix Base Simulator sessions followed by about 6-8 full flight sim sessions)

They save money by the students completing most of the ground school requirements at home....
