Good luck. Even the nice hotels often have cleanliness issues.

When it comes to hotels, if you want to get sleep, ignorance is bliss!

However, the problem with the report is that many of our bedrooms at home are far dirtier.

I haven't been rich enough to afford a hotel with actual glassware. Mine always have the disposable cups in shrinkwrap.

There was a thread on FlyerTalk.com about a year and a half ago about hotel room cleanliness. And this guy brought up the subject of constantly finding things in the room that people had left behind. Specifically, toys and reading material, but of the adult variety.

So now I check underneath the mattress and behind furniture to see if he was right and sure enough...It would gross you out.

I found an un-washed thong stashed away on the top shelf of the closet in a cheap hotel. That's pretty gross....And no I didn't smell it.

checked in the Embassy Buckhead (Atlanta) last weekend while visiting a Georgia State Law School and the remote was actually sticky...that was just cleaner residue, right? right...

The host of the Discovery Channel series "Dirty Jobs" did a segment a while back detailing what some of the nastiest things were in these hotels...of course the bedspread, but also the phone, the remote (I concur), and the furniture. Believe it or not...fecal deposits have been discovered by other under cover investigations. Turns out, some people like the lounge in the nude...Oh, and bed bugs have been noted also. I've also wondered about the ice pail...

I agree with Doug, ignorance is bliss when it comes to hotel rooms. That, and the plastic wrapped coffee cups.

Serious, though.

If you're lucky enough to have an airline with a hotel committee, it might only be a few months until they're able to negotiate a new layover hotel.

But if you don't, and you've got issues with the hotel, suck it up LeRoy because your airline signs hotel contracts up to 24 months at a time and you're not going to be able to drop the trip because it lays over in a hotel that you don't like!

Serious!

What I do is bring a ziplock bag to put the TV remote in so that I don't have to touch the after-sex-fluids from 1000's of people on the remote. I also bring a sanitizer to spray down the headboard and phone. I walk around in flip-flops as to not touch the carpet. Call me OCD, but I'd rather not touch other people's bodily fluids.

That was pretty nasty. Pillow covers are the ones that gross me out the most. I can "ignore" the bedsheets, but cannot ignore the pillow covers. *pukes*

I wonder if your room at home is any cleaner.

They'll change the sheets every single day if you ask them to in a hotel. I don't know anyone who does that at home!

And while the bedspread rarely gets cleaned in a hotel, how often does it get cleaned at home? And you've got your pets tracking stuff on there!

I agree with dough here. There's nothing I can do about it so I'm just going to be blissfully ignorant!

Although I would hate to be the poor bastard who sleeps in the nude in a hotel bed and brings home crabs and gives them to his wife or girlfriend. How you get out of that one, I have no clue!

True story!

There was a popular hotel chain in Orlando that had a number of airline crews laying over.

There were a number of complaints about cleanliness that largely most of the airlines that laid over there pretty much ignored.

Someone came home with pubic lice, ended up with divorce papers from his wife, then hired a private investigator to look into the hotel. They were able to prove that he got 'crabs' from the bed sheets in the hotel, the health department got involved and the hotel was shut down for fumigation.

What happened to his marriage? Did he end up with a settlement??

Sure, my sheets might be "dirtier" than those in the hotel, but at least I'm assured that I shower every single night before I go to bed. I never go into bed without showering, call me anal if you'd like. If I need to take a nap, I'll do it on the couch in the living room.

Besides, the drool on my pillow covers is mine and only mine.
