Yes, they have a code of ethics.

Yep, ALPA has a code of ethics that has been around since pretty much the beginning. It doesn't talk about jumpseating, but it covers general conduct that all pilots should apply to their professional lives. You can find it on the ALPA website.

Thanks for the quick responses! It just seems so bizarre that somebody who is supposed to uphold a professional reputation is acting like that, especially in front of passengers not to mention fellow pilots.

Oh you'll be surprised.

Some folks think professionalism begins when the beacon's turned on or de facto just because you wear a tie to work.

That's why I wear a clip-on tie. I can put my professionalism on and take it off anytime I want to.

3) Offer up first class seats to jumpseaters that follow proper etiquette. We know that the FC cabin is usually full, but if there turns out to be an open seat, it's always nice to ask the lead FA if he/she can put the jumpseater there. I'd do it for you.
The only problem with this is that some airlines prohibit jumpseat riders from first class seating. The multiple jumpseat program at my place is limited to coach seats. We had a Captain who was billed a full first class fare for a jumpseater because a disgruntled CSA wrote him up.

Don't be disappointed if you're not moved up to an empty first class seat, some places won't allow it.

If you want to make that believable, tell them you're the Aircaft Commander on AF1. Captain is an Air Force rank (O-3) not a crew position. And lowly Captains don't usually get the left seat when PotUS is aboard.

Me too!

That's comfy too.

But I learned my lesson about the tie. I usually unclip it and put it atop my flight case in flight. While I was on break, those two boneheads took it and hid it in the cockpit!

All I could think of is running around JFK with my coat on and no tie trying to make the lounge before the chief pilot spotted me dressed like Obama.
