No freaking way in the world would I say I was a mainline pilot when I am not.
How did a gate agent confuse you with a 50+ year old Airways FO????????? The youngest guy that was not furloughed had to have been at least 40

It was an America West gate agent that handled it. AMWEST has a lot of younger guys on their roster. That might have been part of it. Who knows. I just wanted to make it clear that I was not trying to pass off as an Airways FO.

Dude! You're not even Colgan Mainline, let alone Airways mainline!

Seriously, though. He should have known better. I commuted on CAL for way too long. I knew there was no shot in hell of getting a First Class seat domestically (especially not the West Coast). Everybody and their brother were slamming their boarding passes on the counter demanding their free upgrades.

Coach, non-reclining middle seat please. If possible, can it be next to the two biggest guys on the airplane, please. Oh and please make the screens come down so Baldy can come on tell me what great people he works with and how "In the future," he'll try hard. The joys of commuting.

There are some east side guys who have been recalled that are in their early 30's.

When I lie I go for the gold. Why say that you fly for US Airways, when you fly for Colgan. I tell the chicks (and interested guys) that I'm captain on Air Force 1.

Seriously though, this is exactly why I don't give passes to some people I know. For instance I'll give passes all day to one of my in-laws. However, after I've seen how his wife treats wait staff at restaurants. There's no way she's flying on my passes (thank god she thinks too highly of herself to non-rev).

I received an early primer on non-reving from my mom and dad. We were told that if we acted out of line my dad would lose his job. Nothing like the fear economic retribution to keep kids in line. I still have a sort of ingrained feeling of that non-reving today, even on my own passes.

This is why I'm glad I commute on an all-coach class carrier.

The sense of entitlement of some pilots is just astounding to me.

I hate to say this, but there are some real tools at OH. The senior guys make it real hard for some of us. Some of the things I've seen while riding DL makes me embarassed at times. Of the few times that I've had to ride up front, the DL pilots let me know what they think about our senior guys. They really don't have a problem with relatively new guys. What can one do?

It's true though. If someone misbehaves while using one of your passes, you will have your privileges suspended.

If things get a little stupid, a good dose of humility and a sprinkle of humor can generally calm the situation. Flight attendants love the Non-rev with an entitlement complex because they've usually got an airplane full of folks that have similar entitlement complexes, but are paying passengers. When the non-rev does it, now you're a clay pigeon!

I'm with you 100%, I've been treated relatively well by DL pilots but they do let me know what they think on occasion, and they know I wasn't there when it happened. At least at this point most of those guys who caused the problem are gone, and the ones that remain aren't looking to go anywhere anyhow. I just hope it doesn't hurt my chances down the road at DL.

Here is a question, though it may be silly. Does ALPA, or any pilot union for that matter, have a Professional Pilot's Code of Ethics? Everyone talks a lot about "jumpseat etiquette", or other "etiquette's", but is there a spelled out code of ethic's for pilots? Many of the other well respected professions have one, like engineering, law, medicine, etc., why not for pilots?
