So this was started off of Max's thread in the lav about his getting a ticket or not..... I have 2 speeding tickets, both withing 5 months of each other and none before and none since. How terrible will 2 look on my application or resume to an airline and should I just be honest with them about the situations and circumstances?

I've wondered about this too. I've got two within a year of each other that were only cited for 5 MPH over but in the remarks the true 25 MPH over is written. Should we be worried?

But yes, I was haulin' ass on both of those speeding tickets. Sometimes it's easy to get carried away out on the country roads.

I had a speeding ticket too and 3 airline interviews since. Was hired at all 3 places. You will be asked about it and should tell the truth. Tell exactly what happened even if you did what was necessary to get it off your record (like me). Every airline want to hire honest people who take responsibility for their actions and learn from their mistakes. |

Don't speeding tickets drop off your record after 3 years anyway? At least thats what I heard here in Iowa. My ticket came because I was running late to my PPL Checkride (had to stay longer at work)

I know a guy that got a job with a big regional. At the time of his interview, 4 of his many speeding tickets were still on his record including one for 2nd degree negligence. Just clean up your act now and be completely honest at the interview.

I will be as bold to say that no one in this thread has had as many or holds a ticket with a higher "X in a Y zone" ticket than this kid right here.. I have a job.. However, I haven't had any tickets in quite some time and none on my record.. You need to try and get driving school when you get a ticket..

| Old Skool | This is my opinion, which probably doesn't mean much, but to me I'd rather see something on somebody's record than hear they had it expunged. Getting it expunged make it seem like you think its alright to break the rules as long as you don't get caught/in trouble. As has been pointed out, its probably going to be found anyway and I'd be more impressed with "yeap, I did it, I was stupid" than "wtf, I thought I paid a dude a bunch of money to hide that from you!" Again, that's just me.

Do you have to? I don't know, maybe not. IF you choose not to, and they find out about them somehow, it's game over. I guess it's up to you how much you are willing to wager that they won't turn up. | |

| Senior Member | Amen... Both have saved me quite some $$ and will allow you to slow way below the speed limit in time to pass by the cop and give an awful stare...although in upstate NY, you're usually stuck behind someone driving the speed limit anyway, so mine hasn't gotten much use.

In Texas you usually have 2 options: Either try to deferred adjudication (probation) or drivers school (can only do this once every 6 months.) Successful completion of both will result in the dismissal of the charges so you don't have to report them.

See my experience was different... I think in some states (def in new york and CT), if you are over a certain speed, you must come to court to plead and then pay the fine. However when you are there, you speak to the prosecutor first and can end up making some sort of bargain. They're interested in the money, so usually you can work out something so that it goes on your record as a lesser charge. As far as regional hiring, as has been said, as long as you're honest, it will not effect the yes/no decision on your application. We all know how subjective the whole speeding ticket thing can become anyway as well as how our justice system really works.

I think it's different state to state.. I got a ticket in Tennessee and I had to go in front of the judge and plea and then he offered me driving school.. In Alabama, you have to come to court, pay the fine and ask for driving school.. I've got a friend who works in the court house, so I just usually make a phone call.. You can get the 4 or 8 hour courses..
