Because when you are hauling boxes, you are starting out as PIC right away. There's no captain there to hold your hand like there is in the 121 world.

And there are a large number of 1,200 hour pilots that STLL can't hack it. Seen that one first hand...

This is one of the reasons you DON'T lower the mins to become a captain. That said, flying with a seasoned F/O makes the work sooooo much easier.

Yes indeed! Although one of the seasoned FOs I flew with the other day was a total 'know-it-all' type, but that is for another discussion
