Default flying large aircraft like the triple 7 aka 777

a question was asked me, and i wasnt exactly sure of the answer. I always wondered, lets say a airline like Delta or American. Two of my personal favorites, of whom i wouldnt mind working for either one. If one was assigned to the triple 7, on let say Delta 55, going from Atlanta to Tokyo. One Crew of a First officer and Captain cannot fly the aircraft all the way, so how does the crew rest? Do they have some sort of crew dorm on a triple 7? As big as the 747 is, i can assume its probably in the upper deck. However, in a triple 7, where would a crew go?

Thanx in advance.

Some do have rest areas above the cockpit with beds.

Relief officer or just a second first officer? If you look at some of Dougs trip pictures, you can see that they work out schedules for someone else to sit in a seat while the other goes back for a rest.

Im not sure if this is by company, or 121 rules. But the airline I used to work at, a pilot could be on duty for 14 hours, but only fly 8.

That picture is of the crew rest facility for the flight attendants, above coach. The pilot's "condo" is above the first class section. At Delta, is has two bunks, and two seats.

Question, on the 777, if both crew rest areas are above coach and first class, how does the crew get up there?

The 777, has no stairs inside.

The flight-crew-rest compartment is accessed through stairs located at door 1, over what is typically the airplane's first-class section. The flight-crew-rest compartment includes two business-class seats, two roomy bunks and optional amenities, including a closet, sink or a lavatory.

Six-Bunk Attendant Rest Station
The six-bunk attendant rest station, available on the 777-200ER and 777-200LR, can be accessed from stairs located at the mid-section of the airplane

I am curious, are the seats in the pilot rest on the 777 approved for takeoff and landing?

I don't know for sure, but I don't believe they are because of ground-evacuation-time issues.

Hmm I thought I read that they were. But I think that source was whwn the 200LR came out. So maybe that set up is different.

At CAL the 777 has cabin level bunks for crew rest, On the 767 and 757 the pilots get a row in coach blocked off to sleep in. They get a first class seat before any non-revs get them. On the 737 for Caribbean turns the rest seat is in first class.

Deviated on the JFK/ATL last month and the crew said it wasn't. It's not even supposed to be unlocked and used on domestic legs. The A line opened it for me during the enevitable delay in loading in JFK though. Word has it that the new IFE won't work up there due to wiring restrictions. In order to get it to work, the whole compartment needs to be pulled out to rewire it. Looks like a laptop is going to be needed going to China.
