I was wondering about airline company policy regarding tobacco products? No smoking on board is a given, fair enough. However, what about other tobacco products, such as dip and chew? Is it permitted? I just started thing about it, as there is a guy here at the school that dips, and it drives me absolutely ape-s**t watching him spit into cups and bottles. You would think 8 years of Army would have desensitized me to that, but it still drives me nuts. At the moment it is not an issue, I can always just leave the room, however if I was stuck on a flight somewhere with a crew member that was doing it in the cockpit I would go out of my mind!

I was worried about the same thing. But, no worries . . . we have no official policy on the matter.

AMR has no policy regarding use of tobacco products. (Well, you're expected to comply with posted no-smoking areas, but that's kind of something that applies to everyone, it's not employee-specific.)

Alaska doesn't permit you to use ANY tobacco products and they screen for it prior to you getting hired, much like a drug test.

| Exactly. If somebody tells me, "That's not allowed here", then I reply that I'm eating it. If eating is allowed, they can take it up with my attorney.

I have flown with many that dip... I fly with a bunch of old southern "Good-ole-boys" and happen to be from the south myself so it doesn't bother me. Typically though the CA's that do it will ask if I mind or if I want one myself so I guess if it bothered me I could pipe up, but I am fine with it. Now those that smoke drive me nuts because every turn they are trying to find a place- under a jet bridge or a breezeway....

However, once you're hired, you CAN use any tobacco product you want. There is no repetitive screening for tobacco use.

As long as you guys who need suck dirt while flying, take your "spitoons" with ya, I don't care.. The next time someone leaves one in the cup holder, I pull it out and get that garbage all over me, I'm probably gettin' fired and someone's havin' a bad day... That stuff is disgusting, dispose of it properly..

I agree completely - but I feel the same way about empty potato chip bags and soda cans. | |

Well, I'm certainly not going to get into an a$$ whopping match over it, but I am certainly not going to clean it up. If I was with someone that dipped I wouldn't go near anything that remotely resembled a cup or bottle or anything of the like. If he leaves it on board then it would be his problem, not mine.

| Old Skool | Negative. Like I said, I wouldn't touch it if I suspected. And I am almost always suspect.
