Default Fly to FPR

Me and a friend are flying from SFB to FPR either on Tuesday or Wednesday. We are planing to use Forte Pierce Jet Center and after conducting our business having lunch at Airport Tiki. I was wondering if anyone has been there and what you think.

This is only my second time piloting into a new controlled airport without an instructor, so I have the first time jitters.

The Tiki is great, good food and friendly staff.

FPR is a nice airport but tends to be very busy for a small airport, with a couple of large flight schools. Last time I stopped by we were in a line of four to take off again. ATC are usually very easy going and are used to inexperienced and Indian pilots.

The area is just nasty!

I think the traffic has decreased since Pan Am closed the FPR campus. You had Pan Am, Ari Ben, and every yahoo flying to and from the islands (customs) all going through FPR.

FPR is a great training airport with an ILS GPS VOR and NDB approaches. Frankies Flight Deck is a good place to eat too and has authentic New Orleans style Cajun food... get the bananas foster for desert! They are at the Jet Service Center right across from the Tiki which is at the Jet Center near the approach end of 32.

I trained at Fort Pierce with Pan Am back in 2001/02 and second what Turkey said about it being a great training airport. I haven't been there in years, but would guess that the traffic has probably decreased a fair amount. I'm sure though, much as we used to fly to Vero to shoot the VOR 11R, there's most likely still Flight Safety traffic coming in to shoot the Fort Pierce approaches as well since they're so close. The controllers are good there and it was a great experience for me for instrument through CFI. Tiki is awesome, too!

Man, Frankie's is WAAAY better than the tiki.....and the tiki is great. You can't go wrong eating at either of these restaurants.

Yeah, the traffic pattern at FPR is smaller now that Pan Am is gone. No more Pan Am instructors soaking students by flying patterns a 747 could handle......as a result, anyone else in the pattern with them had to follow the leader. I was happy to see them go....just 'cause you want to spend 70G's for flight school.

But I digress. Good food at KFPR!!!!

i beg to differ cruise tiki is better hands down. service and food. lol but thats just me. i was just thinking the other day that i needed to jump down that way just so i could get a bacon cheeseburger and sweet tea. one of the biggest problems with alaska is there is no sweet tea to be found anywhere. theres tea but it has no sugar which drives me crazy. but as far as flying in there dont worry the controllers are used to helping out. just watch for traffic theres a lot

Yeah I talked to Frankie before I left in '05 and I believe he got screwed on his lease or something and I think the current owners tried to keep the flightdeck going with their own restaurant but it definitely didn't come close to what Frankie used to offer. Definitely a shame...it by far beat the Tiki and it's speed of snail service.
