Lightbulb Flying time

I've noticed most major airlines require somewhere around 1500 hours of turboprop/jet time in order to be employed for them. That obviously costs a lot of money, just out of curiousity, what's the easiest way to gain that much flight time? How did you (pilots) go about doing this?

Some military. Most? Working their way up and paying their dues from Flight Instructing, to Regional FO. Upgrade and get the TPIC. Not really that many other options. It's all about the journey, not the destination!

You usually don't pay for the flight time. You work your way up through the regionals or other lower time type jobs. You could pay for it, but why pay for it when you can get paid to do it? But, if you read the perspectives on this site, you'll find some people were able to network to get some time in turbine aircraft to build up their resume.
