Default ASA or AE?

If you lived in BNA where would you go? 39 yrs old 1240TT with 470me. I like the idea of ATL as a base is that crazy? ASA only has one so that would be good for me where as AE has a bunch and I might get sent to the rock one day and I'm not down for that. Any thoughts?

Thanks

How's AE's upgrade time right now? Still >5 years?

If I was 39, I'd be wanting to get that TPIC time ASAP. Hell, I'm 23, and I can't wait to get that TPIC to move on.

Look at upgrade times. Or, unless you really like AE. . .knock yourself out. You may enjoy it.

The rumor is it will go from 7 down to 4 but who knows. Yea the TPIC is the reason I am considering ASA their upgrades are much quicker (like 3 yrs) and with ATL being a 45 min flight from BNA its attractive for when I do catch a line. My buddy at AE is willing to walk in a resume but he is a 7 yr FO and I am not sure that sitting reserve 7 mo. to a yr. is that great a deal for my age and then waiting at least 4 yrs to get the PIC would be a good deal. AE is not going anywhere but they have furlowed pilots not to long ago and ASA from my understanding hasn't furlowed pilots ever. (correct me if I'm wrong on that).

Hasn't furlowed, yet...

Just because they never have, doesn't mean that they never will!

ASA pilots don't seem to be very happy right now.

AE doesn't seem too bad. You probably will end up somewhere you don't want to be, but I know guys that are getting 90+ hrs/month.

If it were me I'd go with the easier commute.

I agree that AE has good things going for them but I just can't see sitting reserve for a year. I know you can "choose" your base but that could change and they could send me anywhere. I do like the overtime pay at X 1.5 over 72 hrs and I know ASA doesn't have that (yet). I would want DFW since that is a 1.4 hr flt. to BNA.

When your on reserve what % is ready vs. regular reserve. Ie. how much golf could I get in? lol

I think there's a better third option. Your times will easily get you an interview at Skywest, which has better QOL, similar pay, and much shorter upgrade currently than either ASA or Eagle. They've got an ATL base (it's small now, but it may be growing) as well as Chicago and Denver--both of which would not be bad commutes at all. With Eagle, ORD would be your best bet and with their guaranteed basing, you'd be assured of getting one of the jets there.

I live in Nashville, used to work for Eagle, and work for Skywest now. It's a decision that has worked out really well for me, and the commute has been pretty easy. This last month I had 19 days off (4 displaced for IOE), 93hrs of credit, and I had a commutable schedule where I spent only 2 nights in a hotel in ORD. The commute hasn't been bad, but there's enough BNA-ORD commuters that I'm much safer taking one of the three Skywest flights than trying to get on another airline. Eagle would present a little problem because most of their flights are ERJ's, which are worthless for jumpseating. I've had to go to MDW on Southwest as well, as it doesn't get as clogged up as ORD.

Let me know if you have any specific questions about either company.

Thanks for the info. How long in Nashville? Did you go to MTSU too? I got through in 92. with a BS in Aerospace. Are you voting for the union? What are your thoughts on that?

That's really something to be proud of too isn't it. . . / slight

Yeah, goto SKW. They're a pretty good operation, minus a real union. Of which, could change - and I hope it does.

Why is the ERJ worthless for jumpseating?

Depends on what model of the ERJ. We have weight increases at XJT that have really eliminated weight restrictions from consideration. Not to say we don't get weight restricted, but not as often as some other carriers. It is nice flying on the branded side, because all our jets have dual FMS and new weights. We have a lot of options when it comes to weight and balance and performance.

Just curious, what weight changed? Landing Weight?

I've had the fun of alternate fuel requirements pushing the CRJ-200 overweight for landing, but I have been "lucky" enough to get on an E-145 jumpseat. At least I had flown with the captain before!

Give us a call if you end up in KIND again... I've found some nice joints to enjoy above average food and suds nearby, you can even watch people drag props on the bottom from the marina bar! If you like that sorta thing...

DUAL FMS is nice!

They upped the max taxi, takeoff, zero-fuel, and landing weights. It gives us much more wiggle room. The weights increased by over 1000 pounds! From what I understand it was both a paper change and a change to the wing spar. Right now our Delta and Branded fleet has the changes, as well as the upgraded cabin.

I'll definitely keep that in mind about IND! It would be great to hang with you guys again. Will you two be making it to Vegas? If so, bring the underpants gnomes DVD.

Can you expand on this? So you don't actually get to choose the location you are based at when you start your job as a pilot with AE?
