Default "Fair Dinkum"..FA "What'd yew call me?"

Quote:
Australian tourist upset over her airborne snack says the slang term "fair dinkum" landed her in a fair amount of hot water this week on a flight from Atlanta to Pittsburgh.
Quote:
Reynolds said that after the mid-air misunderstanding another flight attendant requested her passport and copied down her name and other information. Three uniformed officers greeted Reynolds when she exited the flight in Pittsburgh.
"They said, 'You swore at the hostess and there are federal rules against that,' " Reynolds said. "And I said, 'I did not swear at the hostess, I just said 'fair dinkum.' "

Fair dinkum? Strewth, that bun chucker is a drongo; she's got a few roos loose in the top paddock. What kind of a bogan from back'a'Bourke doesn't know what 'fair dinkum' means?

Fair suck of the sav, that cart tart oughta fill the esky, throw a couple of cases and some goon into the back of the ute, hit the billabong with her mates, fry some snags, and relax. A trolly dolly with no idea what 'fair dinkum' means is gonna find herself on linguistic sticky wickets again and again and again if she's flying sheilas from Oz around. Mate, then she'll be rooted!

I reckon this thread oughta be moved to The Dunny.

Cheers yer bludgers.

I didn't understand hardly a word of that, but that was hilarious. Better not go flying commercial anytime soon.

And of course, if it was Paul Hogan that said it on the plane, she'd probably swoon and want his autograph.....

Australian slang for "honestly" or "really".

"Fair dinkum" is a phrase generally used down the pub on a Friday afternoon when someone decides to tell a story that is so obviously exaggerated and untrue that nobody, not even people in drunken stupor, would believe. At the end of the story, when everyone conscious is staring at the teller thinking "you liar", the words "Fair dinkum!" exclaimed by the story teller will instantly win the story credibility. And everyone will stop thinking "you liar" and say "wow... that's amazing", and accept without further question that the story is true. "Fair dinkum" means "honestly!", "truly!" and "I'm not lying, and to prove it I'll buy you another drink!"
