Heard a Getaway (USA3000) out of FLL and JetBlue out of PBI headed to the NY area tonight around midnight. Miami Center was reviewing their routing with them to confirm it matched what he was told was mandatory for heading up that direction. The route included a scenic tour of the Cleveland metro area. I just checked the FlightAware tracks of the two flights and thankfully they were given a much more direct routing somewhere around Alma, GA. Anyone else have horror stories from the NY area tonight? |

It's 4:30 AM and I just got to the hotel...on day 5 of a 4-day. Sweet.

It was a mess last night...I wasn't flying but all afternoon there were Towering Cumulus parked over EWR/LGA/JFK which I'm sure caused the normal afternoon ground delays to only get worse. Then from 8-12pm multiple bands of storms came through with all three airports having 0 arrivals/departures. I was watching the carnage on flightaware. Aircraft holding, doing 3-4 turns only to get closer and then divert due a line North of the field. Looks like Atlantic City was a popular hang out last night....Good to see everyone is ok (except that AA wingtip in ORD).

Today is "supposed" to be better. We'll see. I had a four hour ground hold in DFW two days ago then got the Houston-Florida routing into DCA. Another four hours. Nice. ![]() I did get some awesome photographs of the storms from the air though. (The files are too big to attach. I tried)

When there is a four hour ground hold, do you get paid that additional 4 hours; or since you are on the ground does that not count?

It's amazing how a few storms completely destroys the entire system around NY. Stuff like Valentine's day is just waiting to happen. " do you get paid that additional 4 hours;" They better! |

Maybe someone who actually gets paid to fly should answer this question.

| I went back through my photographs and counted 74 separate cells like the ones I posted. And, I did not take photos of all the storms along the route. The sunset pictures were the best. Likely some of the outflow was at 60. Long ride, but strikingly beautiful. Another sunset photo and that is Venus in the second one.
