C-172 and a lightning strike?

I was asked what would happen if a tiny general aviation plane was hit by lightning. I just answered that I wasn't sure and that I didn't want to find out! What would happen anyway? Just depends on how big the lightning bolt was and where it hit? Nothing? fried avionics? death and dismemberment? Any guesses? Somebody must know. By some of your posts, it seems like some jetcareer users have been hit by lightning in the David Clark's frequently.
