| This happened today around noon. May the guy/gal rest in peace. http://www.cfnews13.com/News/Local/2...ne_person.html If you watch the video, the media claims he downed right near the end of THE runway. Umm, hello media idiots....sanford has FOUR runways. Looking at the map it looks like it happened right behind rwy 36, which is used like one day a year, so I seriously doubt he was on final for that runway. Most likely he was flying the pattern around 9R/36L (the very bottom runway shown in the video for those not familiar with the airport). |

| TO ADD: This is much more personal now, as I have just found out it was my friend's father who perished. An extremely experienced pilot and ATC professional. I'm in shock right now. |

| I've been meaning to go up for a fun cross country somewhere, but it may be along time before I fly again now that this has happened...atleast without a few more refresher flights with an instructor. The guy had been flying for many, many years with his own banner and skywriting business, not to mention his own chartering business in a learjet as well. I can't even get ahold of his son (who's my friend). Just makes you wonder if these things can happen to such experienced pilots, how much of a risk is it for a < 100 hour private pilot to fly? |

| Senior Member | its no riskier than it was yesterday. Your personal experience is going to limit you to certain situations that you are equipped to handle, and that comfort envelope will grow as your experience does. Its natural and prudent to look at an accident and learn from it, assimilate it into your knowledge and move forward. Dont lose your confidence over this, go fly. |
