Default Ground School Instructor

Does anyone know what you have to do to become a private pilot ground school instructor. I am interested in getting that license while working toward my cfi but not understanding the FAA regs. on it.

IF you are obtaining your CFI cert then wait till you have completed that since being a CFI will allow you to be a ground instructor and as well as a flight instructor. If you do not want to wait or do not plan on gettting your CFI then go take the Ground Instructor Exam. It will certify you only for ground instruction and it also has some limitation to it. I would suggest that you just get your CFI since its easier on you and well there is no defining line on what you can and cant do. good luck and if you have any questions about CFI just let me know. From one CFI to another.

Take the FOI and AGI tests. Take the results to the nearest FSDO and they will issue you an Advanced Ground Instructor certificate.

You really only need a basic ground instructor certificate for private instruction, but it's not worth bothering with. Go ahead and get the advanced. It's composed of the same questions you're already studying for the FIA test anyway.
