Default Crosswind Qualified!!!

The other day we had winds blowing 20Kt, gusting to 30Kt and it was all crosswind to the runways (maybe 50-65 degrees). A passenger comes on and is talking all lound and stuff saying "BOY, IT SURE IS WINDY OUT THERE. I SURE HOPE ONE OF YOU GUYS ARE CROSSWIND QUALIFIED!!!"

Me and the captain just look at each other and say:
"Don't worry, he is crosswind qualified."

"I'm not crosswind qualified, I thought you were?"

No, I thought you were!!!"

Anyway, We get into DFW and during the landing rollout I mention to the captain (his landing) "boy, it sure was good that you were crosswind qualified." He then picks up the PA and announces over the cabin "CROSSWIND QUALIFIED!!!"

I was like...you did not just do that. It was very funny but not to professional in my opinion. Anyway, just thought I would share.

I have to disagree with you on that;

As a professional you have the right to mess with people that aint respectin' on yous' skillz.

It would be unprofessional not to mess with them

Agreed - in fact, I think it's a requirements in many Fortune 500 companies - as it should be.

Ya know I hate that too. What the hell is "professional" anyway? I think we all take ourselves too seriously. Just because the guy knows how to make a few jokes does not mean he does not take things seriously when he has too. I say kudos to the cappie for creating a little levity in the tedious travel environment. The passengers probably got a good chuckle and it brightened their day a little.

I gotta say, I fly Southwest as often as possible now just because those people know how to have fun when they can. Do you know how much it takes to put a smile on a weary business travelers face?
