Max, first year pay at majors was always low. Guys went from making $30,000-$45,000 flying a Beech/Metro/Saab to making $30,000 grand flying for a CAREER type place. Not that big of a pay hit.

no need to worry man. im not a hater with people who do certain training methods. i am a firm believer that certain situations work for certain people. some people can get all of their ratings in 4 months for 10g's thats great! while others might take a couple of years. thats great too! everyone has a different agenda and opportunities. i am not the one to be judging them because they feel the way they are doing training works best for them. a phrase i heard that sticks true to me is, "dont get me killed, violated, or fired." to each his own.

| Old Skool | I highly doubt there are any 777 or 747 FOs with only one year of seniority!

Here is the thing with United: They are announcing that they will be hiring First Officers, while at the same time announcing they are looking for a merger partner. That does not give me a good feeling.

As for the merger partner, it doesn't make any sense, but that doesn't mean it's not going to happen. They're hiring FAs as well but I'm thinking, yeah, an FA's income living in the DC area and they wonder why they can't find people? | |

| Old Skool | I dunno Matt. Just ask any of the AWA "new hires" how the merger treated them. If ALPA applies the same logic to future mergers, being a new hire would actually be a pretty good thing.

| Depends if you are on the "USAir" side of the merger, or the "AWA" side of the merger.

yea i would almost be willing to bet the 744 goes somewhat junior. international routes are not that appealing to people. then again if i was hired on an international carrier i would be bidding south america and asia trips like crazy!

"Damn! Who knew! I just figured it'd take a long time to get enough seniority to bid for the heavy metal" Some newhires at UPS are going straight to the right seat of the MD11. That's why UPS decided to start hiring folks with international experience.

i like how ups does there payscale thought. it does not matter what you fly rather how long you have been with the company. makes a lot of sense to me. the md 11 is a cool plane but the 756 is a beast in my opinion. stick with that don. |

| Old Skool | Champcar, you're a tool and are very close to becoming the first d bag on my ignore list. This post is not an invitation for everyone to tell me how much of an ####### I am. ( I know I'm one, my friends tell me everyday)

All that this post does is invite a fight. If you feel the need to call him a tool and a d bag, take it to PM or call him on the phone and you guys can discuss it there. If you are really to the point where his posts bug you enough to *ignore* him, than just do it. Announcing that you are doing so completely defeats the purpose, and in fact just points out that your intention is different than what you are stating. Don't be two-faced and don't make a mess in Doug's living room. If you have a counter point to things that he is saying, than by all means state your case and argue for your viewpoint. Like a professional. Apparently it is time, once again, to review a few Rules: 1. Keep your posts professional. You never know who'll end up as your new chief pilot. Trust me, I know. 4. Be kind to your fellow user. Take it outside, folks, this isn't cage fighting and 99.9% of the rest of us don't care that you two can't get along on a personal level. 9. Don't Post Angry! It can really make you look like a doofus. Besides, arguing on the internet is stupid. You don't want to be stupid, right?

Taking the shuttle bus tomy car, a United pilot and I were talking B.S. Weather, sports, the women , etc. I heard the rumor of UA hiring this year and had to ask. It's all about who you know right? He said he really didn't know but told me he could honestly advise me not trying to apply at UA. Management has sucked the life out of what was once a great airline. He said I would be better off going corporate and get a stable gig. Yikes!
