So the Aviator link shows 35K a year to START as a CFI? could this be true? Any other details available? ![]() http://www.flyaviator.com/index.html |

Too bad we don't live in FL! That's more than my husband makes in his M-F CFI job + 32 hours of tech support on the weekend. And speaking of CFI pay, I don't know where my husband found it, but somewhere on monster.com it shows what the average flight instructor makes in our area, and it's listed at $77K for the median pay. YEAH RIGHT! I'd take half of that and consider it an improvement! |

77K a year, yeah that wouldn't suck! Yeah and I just realized that it's Ari Ben.

Wow, that would be a big improvement over my $10.00 an hour for flight (15 for pro students) and $0.00 an hour for ground that I was making at the Aviator. ![]() I think I made about $8000.00 there last year (which included helping to rebuild the school after the hurricanes). Also when did Brian make it to the home page?

That's true, it barely paid rent. I bought food and a lot of beer with my high interest student loan. Citibank Visa....... I'm not complaining though. After going to Aviator I got a regional job at 600 hours.

No matter how much you make, it all goes somewhere, and usually somewhere not fun. It seems like the more raises I get, the more bills I have, although I don't have anything to show for them.

I seriously doubt the $35K is accurate. I'm a former Aviator full-time instructor/ part-time dispatcher and I wouldn't have made that much in two years......let alone one! ![]() Unless things have changed considerably.....and again, I seriously doubt it.......can't see it happening. Perhaps that figure is for Asst. Chief or Chief Pilot; if so, then that figure could be accurate. I would definitely recommend getting more information on job duties/ responsibilities for that posted salary. Because something just isn't adding up there. |

Yeah there is something on there about "two year" something...and gold deal preferred. I would assume it's asst chief or something.

Check out their instrument rating training done in a multi.... http://www.flyaviator.com/multiInstr.html Only ~10k for instrument rating, including 50 hours multi OR only ~15k, for instrument rating, including 100 hours multi Housing is an additional $30 per day or $600 per month. |

It's a 12 month contract and pays $2500/month with a $5000 bonus at the completion of the 12 months. No, it isn't a chief or asst chief position, Mike is just trying to get a few good instructors on his staff who want to stick around for a bit.

Would you take $39,600 after taxes/benefits for a second year FO?

Its not impossible as a CFI..I make $22/hr and average 35 hours billed per week. so after a year it works out to be $36960.00 of course there are days that I dont fly because of weather, but there are also weeks when I bill closer to 50 hours but I would say 30k is a safe bet. makes it sad that I am going to go to fly an rj and take a 10k pay cut at LEAST

Wow, that would be nice to get 35-50 hours a week! I swear my husband is there all day, yet so far his first check for 15 days had 32 hours, and his second check had 42, his third will only have about 20, because he was constantly cancelled on and then had bad weather. And of course, he's only getting paid $12 an hour.

| Old Skool | Yeah, you wanted $35K for the first year, but would you deal with about $30,000 for the first year and $39K for the second? I don't know how but that's about what the FO's at SKW are getting right now. One of them is working Wed-Fri and says he'll clear $3300 a month after taxes and deductions. It doesn't make sense based on their listed hourly rates, but these are not people that would lie to me, I don't think anyway! |

I know that was the reason that the first year ended up at 30K, but with a Wed-Fri schedule, is that enough time to get in OT? I didn't think it sounded like there could be OT in there, but maybe? Do they get "time and half" pay over the monthly guarantee, or do they not get that until it's been a standard, more than 40 hours in a week?

There are a couple variables involving whether a trip is paid overtime or not, but right now, there are a lot of trips that pay overtime pay. Since staffing is so short right now, people are also able to max out their schedules. Brasilia pilots are also grandfathered into the old 135 rules which allow them to fly 120 hours a month. So a regular line paying around 85 hours and 14 or 15 days off can easily be changed into 10 days off and around 110 hours (or more) of credit for the month......add in per diem and the fact that some of it's overtime pay and it adds up quick......too much work for my taste, but it makes for a good paycheck.... | |
