| Oh no.. not another one of THESE questions... I really dont want people thinking I'm just another snot nosed kid that doesnt want to pay his dues before he gets paid for flying.... but here goes... I am in the Navy, currently deployed to Djibouti, Africa doing a little bit of forward Air Controlling and working at Djibouti Ambouli Int'l airport's tower... I return sometime before fall, and want to finish up my IR COM and then I'm not sure what to do. Here's what I'm thinking... I'm coming back with enough to get my IR, Com ASEL/AMEL, CFI/CFII... or I could do IR, COM ASEL, AMEL.. multi time building. The thing I keep going over in my head is- I am stationed in Corpus Christi, TX.. and there arent any flightschools that I know of down there (I'm going to be commuting up to Dallas to goto Skymates every weekend for my school) so finding a job instructing in Corpus will be pretty damned difficult, I think (I could be mistaken)... I really want to make a smooth or somewhat smooth transition from the Navy to flying in the next 2 years when this hitch is up but am afraid without a flight school to teach at down in corpus that I will not get enough time up to be marketable to the freight companies or the regionals. I really look forward to flying freight.. it's always seemed fun... will they hire a fresh commercial pilot? Could I fly skydivers? I guess what I'm asking is, if you were in my position, what would you do? ANY thoughts will be greatly appreciated.. sorry if I sound mislead.. but this place is a huge tool for getting us wayword newbies on the right track I'm told.

| Get the CFI(s). Instruct, tow banners, do whatever until you meet the 135 mins (1200 TT and such) to go fly freight. The amount of multi time you would get for "time building" won't be nearly as much free time (I say that, but don't think of instructing as getting 'free time'). As bad as others may make it out to be, with almost all the regionals hiring with such low time, getting on someplace and building a good chunk of time there isn't a bad option either, (disregarding the fact that regionals really aren't the place to be building flight time). Do what is best for you and fits into your life.

| Old Skool | You can fly divers dude! Well, a lot of places require 500 TT, but that's a great way to build some time. Do you know what the capital of Djibouti is?? Djibouti! 'got a mind like a steel trap! Doesn't want to pay his dues... ![]()

As far as everyone's responses... thanks... any advice is definately helpful.. I cant help but think if I got my CFI/CFII that I could find someone in the corpus area that needs a CFI... And as far as my dues being made 'thewife' thanks.. I appreciate it... I think I have more work to do though ;-)

| Old Skool | Are you kidding? They used to have a pretty good Navy Flying Club at NAS C.C. And once you get your CFI, you can instruct there as well.

| Old Skool | Too bad. All the Navy Flying Clubs I ever saw (C.C., North Island, Norfolk, and Whidbey Island) had a good mix of airplanes and plenty of CFIs. I knew a VAW AMDO who got his tickets and his experience at Navy Flying Clubs. He's a Captain at United now.
