Default Memorial Day: What it means to you

I am deeply grateful to all those who have selflessly risked, and those who have lost, their entirety for the rest of us to enjoy the freedoms and economic opportunity we have here every day. I personally would not have a life if it were not for the Allied Forces fighting the European Theatre of WWII. Both of my parents were liberated by them.

So, a huge thanks to all you military fly boys and girls from me. Consider yourselves hugged.

Right back atchya for all those who appreciate what we do.

And more gratitude than I can express to all those wounded or killed. Thanks. Really, thanks.

For me Memorial Day os not just to honor those that have died in service, but to honor all that have served. I am grateful to the many people that have served in the past, but even more greatful to the soldiers that are serving now so I don't have to.

Thank you for keeping us free!

I have my poppy.

I think it'll stay there until it falls off.

Memorial day reminds me that I never got to know either of my Grandfathers, and they never got to know me.

I'm assuming Memorial day is what we in Britain call Rememberance day, which we have on the second Sunday in November. But, do you guys have poppy's for Memorial day as well?

My paternal Grandpa drove a tank onto one of the beaches on D-Day. I truely can not begin to imagine what that must have been like.

My heartfelt gratitude to all members, past, present, and future, of all branches of our armed services.

Thanks to the great men and women that I served with, to those who still proudly wear a uniform and my eternal gratitude for those who paid the ultimate price and never made it home.

Whenever someone would praise my uncle's service in WWII he would always reply "No, I'm not a hero, all the heroes are buried in France."

quick question... what's a poppy? i know it as a type of wildflower...is that what ya'll are talking about?

me... memorial day means remembering my two grandfathers... my grandpa on my mom's side died in WWI.. my grandpa on my dad's side was in both WWI and WWII, i think vietnam too, and made it out alive, living till he was, i think 81. as much as i would question him, he never would tell me any stories (I used to be somewhat of a history buff but only if i could get the stories out of the horses mouths otherwise it was just never the same). but my dad still has his old uniform and things

Sitting in ICU with a Korean War vet, gunny sgt, ret. and his son Currently a Col. in the corp. The stories these guys are talking about the untold stoies of bravery and service that they have witnessed.

I am just thankful for the service all men and women of the Armed Forces have provided to this country.

As a veteran, it means that I should never dishonor the memories of the deceased by not living my life to the absolute peak. It also means that I shall remember history, or as the old saying goes, be doomed to repeat it.

To all fellow veterans and former brothers-in-arms, I salute you. Keep fighting the good fight.

Agree. *Salute*

I get goosebumps and a very special feeling in my heart every time I salute a veteran and tell them "Thank you for serving." BTW I will be attending a ceremony tomorrow at 9:30 a.m., to salute all of those that have perished serving this great country.
