Default Professional Interview Attire

So just wondering what it is.... Obviously a Suit but I know in many jobs there's a "unwritten" rule as to how to dress. Just wondering if there's any catch.... Any color not recommended, etc...... I know kind of an interesting question but might as well ask now before the time comes.....

Conservative without being a banker. Simple is better. Double-breasted is out. Gray, or dark blue. Black is okay but beware of lint. Striped ties are in right now. Spend a few bucks and have it cut to fit you. Quality over flash. On a three button suit, button only top two. On a four button, top three.

Go to a Men's Wearhouse and talk with them about general interview attire. They'll hook you up with the knowledge and the threads to go with it.

I dunno, I can think of a black wool double-breasted suit with gold stripes on the sleeves that is still pretty 'in' to me

Though I wouldn't recommend wearing it to an interview......

I personally don't like any suits with more than three buttons. Ugggh.

The key is to look professional. If you can pull that off, you'll be fine. Get carried away trying to look like a fashion plate, and unless you can pull that off for sure, you're gonna look reeediculous.

And looking ridiculous ain't a good interview success strategy!

If you don't want to mess around, simply go with a grey or navy suit, a white shirt, and a red tie. You can't screw that up.

Go to Men's Warehouse or its equivalent and let them know what you need. They'll hook you up and get it tailored so it looks good on you.

Four buttons look pretty stupid on anyone who isn't quite tall. I look ridiculous in them (of course, that may have little to do with the suit).

They are pretty well out-of-style. You rarely see them among lawyers and business types anymore.

There's a couple reasons, and it is of course, subjective. The db suit is, in many circles, a fashion love letter to the 1980's - remember Stop Making Sense?

If you're a more portly gent, the db tends to accentuate that aspect because dbs generally have a little more padding in the shoulders to help the suit drape correctly. Letterman is one of the few people who gets away with db, but notice he leaves them unbuttoned and he's quite tall.

Four buttons are okay on tall skinny guys, but it depends on how short the lapel is...if it's a short lapel, high-button (think Keanu in the Matrix movies when he's wearing a suit) they can actually be a little slimming. Shorter lapels are more stylish these days.

I definitely agree with the others about Men's Wearhouse. They don't have the quality of high-end bespoke suits, but they do a really nice job with fit and color for you. I've picked up two suits from them over the last couple of years for around $500 after tailoring and they've held up well.

Even if you don't get a suit from them, I highly, highly recommend their shirts. The Joseph and Feiss shirts are, in a word, da bomb. They will re-cut them for you if you want. Fabrics are awesome, they wear beautifully, huge selection, and about once a year they go on sale for around $25 a piece. Worth every penny.

So wearing an old TWA uniform to a CAL interview wouldn't be a good idea??? How about a CMR uniform to a DAL interview??
