I hate skybus as much as the next guy. I'm sure they will have people buying $10, $20, $30, and maybe $40 tickets. However I don't see anyone spending more than that to fly with them.

Why?

I just did a search on tickets from Indianapolis to Ft Lauderdale on AirTran and found a one-way coach ticket costs $58 (before taxes, etc.). So if i'm Joe Passenger, I'm going to spend $58 to fly on an airline that I can (1) Call a phone # and talk to a real person if i need to (2) Check my bag for free (3) Board like a normal person via a jetway (4) Get a drink, pillow, or whatever on the plane for no extra cost (5) Get free headphones to listen to XM radio (6) Not get hawked to buy a freakin skybus mug or teddy bear, (7) Not have my information sold to third party companies for a profit [read skybus' privacy "rules"] and (8) Know that the people working for the airline are at least making a liveable salary. Just to name a few - not to mention you have to pay for everything twice if you need to "connect" thru CMH.

Unless they can make a profit by selling all their seats for less than $40, I don't see them lasting more than 6mo's either.

My comp is base plus commission but I get enough base to not need to ram crap down people's throats.

These folks will not.

And seriously, who the bleep wants to sell their soul for a quarter? That's what they'll get on a $2.50 coke.

Screw that. That kind of commission is almost an insult. Sell a Coke and we'll give you 25 cents.

Offer me a job like that and I'll tell you to shove it where the sun don't shine.

$9.00 an hour? $16,000 a year???? How can anyone live on that? That is shameful!

I will not fly on such an airline!

Do you realize what the starting salaries are for Flight Attendants at other airlines?

Starting salary for Flight Attendants at airlines/carriers is in the $16,000 to $23,000 range...

Flight Attendants have always provided service to the passengers selling an assortment of drinks, meals, headphones, etc,......

Tony

You are about 30 years old, how much money did you make at your first job? So, of course you would not accept a job that is paying $16,000 a year, neither would I.

As to the commission, not a bad deal to make some extra money, at other airlines, you are making that same salary or less with no chance for the extra money.....

My first job out of college back in 1990 was for $20K a year. Inflation adjusted, that's a shade under $32K.

So like I said, I'd tell anyone who offered me a job for a $16K base to take that job and shove it where the sun don't shine.

For some of these Flight Attendants, it is their first job.... Not sure about you, but, my first job was working for Dunkin Donuts, barely making $3.00 per hour......

This Skybus airline is paying industry standard rates & if they are not, then they will not get any applicants.

Now, I can tell you, I won't fly them, but, they have sold 200,000 tickets....

I realize that the starting salaries were low, but not that low! I understand them selling the basics but when their CEO says "they'd sell real estate if they could" or something to that effect, I think it's tacky.

So what? I just told you that my first real job paid me the equivalent of $32K now. Why anyone would say, yeah, sure, let me work for half that rate and think it's all good is beyond me.

I can make more than eight bucks an hour lifeguarding. I can make more than eight bucks an hour folding sweaters.

You better believe I ain't taking that kind of crap salary and then being asked to sell cokes with a patronizing we'll give you a quarter if you sell one.

My response would be to take that job and shove it.

Actually, it'd be shorter. Two words, seven letters. The last word is off.
