Do you guys recommend the SD1000? I am shopping around for cameras but dont know which. Which one has good shots at night where it is not that noisy? I just wanted a pocket camera

I just bought an SD1000 and I'm happy with it thus far. I have an older Canon G2 and it's just too big and clunky to carry around. The SD1000 is great....it fits in a pocket very nicely. The battery life is great. So, in my opinion, for the price (can easily get them for less than $200), tough to beat it.

My main camera is a Canon 20D (I really want a 40D but can't get it in the budget) and it is definitely too big to carry around in the flight bag. I did some research and bought a Canon SD800 to carry around, the main reason being that the zoom lens on the wide end comes out to a 28mm equivalent focal length. In English that means that it's a decently wide angle lens. I haven't done a lot with it yet, only enough to know that it sucks compared to my DSLR, but what do you expect? Anyways, I picked it up at Costco w/ a 2GB card for $315. Check out the link below for some of my work. All images on that site were taken with my DSLR. |

I've had a Canon Digital Rebel for about 3 years and change. You can change the lenses out. (If you can afford a different one.) You can use it like an old 35 MM camera where you make all the adjustments OR you can let it do the work for you. Takes excellent pictures. I think you can pick them up for around $600 these days. (BTW it is the only really nice electronic thing I have.) A little big to lug around with me on my all my trips, but overall I am very, very happy with it. Great camera.

I had a Canon D30 Digital SLR camera with two lenses back during my photography phase. It was a fantastic camera, and I just know it would take BEAUTIFUL cockpit photos... if you could fit the entire thing in your bag. That's the only downside, besides price, of course. Otherwise their use and versatility is endless. And the Canon D40 just came out! Man... if I had the money and it wasn't all being blown on time-building! Even though it's relatively tweeked (post-processed with imaging programs) here's a shot of SBA on a cloudy day: http://www.desperocity.com/photoblog.php?showimage=51 And more of some puffy mini cumulus clouds over santa barbara: http://www.desperocity.com/photoblog.php?showimage=37 And flying over catalina: http://www.desperocity.com/photoblog.php?showimage=68 And finally, three planes at the Catalina airport (we arrived in the Piper): http://www.desperocity.com/photoblog.php?showimage=69 |

It takes great pics and has a huge screen for viewing them. It's a little pricy right now, but I totally recommend it because for the size of the lens/chip a 7.1 megapixel camera is a bit of overkill. (i.e. the lens can't get the detail that the pixels are recording) It'll last you for a long time. The only thing that sucks is the battery - it's a canon specific one, so buy 2. A 2 gig SD card will hold about 1000 pics also so you can leave pics on the card for a bit without downloading them if you are on a long trip.
