Default American Eagle And Merican Airlines

I am arguing with a friend on mine who is a CFI looking to start dropping apps to regionals. He says he is only going to apply to Eagle. We are disagreeing on a few points so I was wondering if you guys could clear them up.

1. Do Eagle pilots have a better chance of beeing hired by American Mainline because they already work for AMR.
2. If you do get hired, does your seniority number carry into mainline? Is there one big seniority list?

I told him no to both , but he insists I am wrong. Would not be the first time so I thought I would ask those that may know. I gave him the whole cyrstal ball talk. I also him to register on here to hear the real life version of the biz. He was given too much Kool-Aid at American Flyers. Like I said, I am not sure, so please set me straight.

1) No, they actually, in the past, have had a worse chance of being hired by mainline. They did go through a flow-through period for a few years, but that got ugly due to the industry down-turn and Eagle had a few of the flow-throughs displace some other Eagle pilots. Do not count on there ever being a flow-through at AMR again, from what I hear.

2) No, there is not one big seniority list! As said above, there used to be a flow-through, but that has stopped, as far as I know.

I'm sure some Eagle people can provide more insight, as my information is just what I've read recently, and several years old for my first-hand knowledge.

You are correct. The big thing eagle has going for it is you can choose your base and we are seeing about 40-50 upgrades a month now.

I wouldn't really say that having flown for Eagle makes any difference at all. As a current Eagle pilot, if you put in a application and you get an interview, it's all about you and your attitude at the interview. Pretty much as it is for anyone. Being Eagle more than likely will not be a black mark. AA has not hired in some time, and it will be a while before all AA's furloughees are back.

Your occupational senority number absolutely does NOT carry over to AA. Occupational senority is bidding senority, it's your 'place' on the pilot senority list. If you've been an Eagle pilot for 7 years and you get hired off the street by AA, you will be a 1st year pilot at AA. Now, you will keep your employee number, and your company senority DOES carry over. That is for things like vacation accrual, pass privliges, etc. Your company senority has no bearing what-so-ever on bidding schedules, equipment or upgrades.

This is from someone who flew as a Eagle FA for 6 years, interviewed at AA, and got hired. So I'm very familier with what's involved with making that jump. As for the 'flow-through', consider that a non-issue, as letter 3 will probably not exist (at least in the form it is now) when he may be ready to take advantage of it. If he wants more info on the flowthough, go to eaglelounge.com and do a search for "flowthrough". Tell him to grab a 6 pack and be sure to have a couple hours.

Don't forget to bring the $5 cover charge.
