| I’m not sure where to post this but I’ll try here. I’m looking for some advice for my future plans. I’m currently working as a CFI and I have about 900 hours so far but no multi. There are several paths I can choose but I’m wondering what would be best since the hiring is pretty good right now. So here are my choices….. 1. Continue to build my time for 135 cargo and plan for a nice commuter after that. (I only need a fresh multi and I have a place to work when I’m ready but keep in mind I still need 350 hrs point-to-point XC which will take another year of CFI work for me) 2. Get the multi, buy 50 hours PIC and take any airline that will hire me. (I have a few connections that might help but it’s no guarantee) Thanks! |

1) What is your ultimate goal? What would you rather do? Some people like the regional lifestyle and putting the uniform on. Others, like me, still can't stand the uniform, and can't wait to get hired into a place where I don't have to wear it. Is the ultimate goal airlines? Corporate? Fractional? Depending on this answer, we could maybe provide better inputs for you... 2) For the point to point, you know it's not necessarily 50NM, right? Why will it take another year? Go do some pattern work with your studs at local airports. If you have Instrument studs, do the approach with a touch and go. You shouldn't take that long to build up point to point. |

Personally I'm going for 135 mins even if it means instructing longer. Of course, I still have a year of school left and only need another 475 or so hours until I hit 1200, which I should have by the time I graduate. It really all depends on your personal preference. If you don't mind the 121 world, there couldn't be a better time to jump ship so-to-speak and go to a regional. By the way, I see you're from PSC. Do you work for Bergstrom's? I'm an instructor over in ALW. If you need someone to split a bunch of multi-time with, give me a PM. I'm in need of a few hours myself. How much does Bergstrom's charge for their Seneca? Oh yeah, and for the XC time, just do a touch and go at Vista every time you fly. Part 135 mins are only point-point, so if you do an hour and a half flight, do a touch and go at Vista then back to PSC, you can count the whole flight. |
