I remember him, his smile, and what a polite gentleman he was. I am a Navy daughter and I have always loved the Blue Angels. I try to never miss Fleet Week in San Francisco. This past October, I was there, and was invited to some Fleet Week activities. I had great pleasure in buying the Blues and their wives and significant others, a round of drinks at the bar after their final show. He was there, smiling, and ever the gracious gentleman.

Godspeed my Blue Angel who has entered the White light.

Care to give us details about the crash that you saw in person that maybe the media has left out, or just isn't as aware of?

The pilot was LCDR Kevin Davis, he was the team narrator last year, this was his first year as a demo pilot.

Sad. Those Blue Angel pilots are like hero's in my eyes. I've watched them since I was a little kid.

How does something like this affect their schedule? Do they call it for for a while or the whole season?

In no way is this a disrespect to the pilot, I'm just wondering how an accident like this is taken care of.

When my buddy was a Blues airframe QA, he took me on a tour of their hangar down in Pensacola. They actually have several back up aircraft with duplicate numbers painted on the tail so they can rotate aircraft when phase inspections are due, which time cylces very depending on airframe. Ours was every 100 hrs. So basically there are two #6 and so on. The Blues will cancel some shows until the board of inquiry is convened for the mishap. That will give the pilots and mechs to get back into the groove and get ready to continue on. The #7 pilot is the MC and will most likely be the replacement. There might be a little musical ejection seats to get the show back on the road.

Do they still fly the #6 or is it not used for the rest of the year?

If they don't have a dual #6, than they will use the #7 aircraft till a substitute #6 a/c can be added.

Quite possibly could have stayed with the plane trying to keep it away from houses/people etc.....

Is there too low an altitude? What about too fast a speed?

Most of the solo stuff is down low. It sounded like he was low, but as long as your above 100 ft you can eject safely. I'm thinking that there going to look into why he didn't eject by looking at the remains of the ejection seat and system and will also look into the flight control/hydraulic system. He could have had been trying to dead stick it to an unihabited area. We'll just have to wait and see what the NAVAIR invetigation team comes up with.

With as good as the Blue Angel pilots are, I would find it very hard to believe it was pilot error, especially since they weren't doing any knife edges and only one aircraft was involved. I'd bet money is was an aircraft problem. The Blue Angels are on the top of my list as THE best pilots in the world. Its ashame he didn't eject, but like you said, he might have been trying to keep the aircraft from killing people on the ground. That sounds like something noble that any Blue Angel pilot would do.

check the video here if you haven't seen it. You can see the a/c make a sharp left bank turning to join the others and then it drops.

...they appear to have edited out the plane goign down.....
