Default San Antonio is abuzz for XJT!

I for one think that XJT has a great idea focusing on S.A. San Antonio is a city that is growing more and more every year with larger corporations continuing to move deep in the heart of Texas. (i.e. AT&T, USAA, Valero)

I know we're excited to be getting them here in in Sac as well as Ont as a hub... This brings a new hope for me personally of being able to stay out west when I get hired other than SkyWest.

$1 BEER!!!! I didn't know that!!

Here's the local article from the Sac Bee

Saw an article in the paper here (TUS) that fares will start around $69.00 for a limited number of seats TUS to SAT each way.

1) They were. See: TSA focus city, late 2005-early 2006. Failed MISERABLY out of SAT.
2) 50 seat jets != economical. I can't wait until the day people finally figure that out.

Only once your airline stops rehashing ideas that have failed already.

Indy air + UAL's SAT focus city = failure.

Chris... I know your smarter than that...

Even the Wall Street cats are starting to figure out that there is no comparison to Indy in our business plan. As for the UAL focus city... different time... different equipment... different markets... different business plan.

Give us some love there bro'...

Sweet ONT as hub! That's only like 5 minutes from my house. All the more reasons to try and get on with them! Stay local!

Re: UAL focus city.

"different time..." 1 year later... things have dramatically changed in SAT since 2005-06?

"different equipment" You guys are operating a different sort of ERJ 145 than TSA was?

"different markets..." More markets, sure. Good thing overgrowth has never had any negative effects on an airline

"different business plan" Sure. But in this business plan, if the planes run at zero profit and zero loss, they'll be lauded as a huge success.

Just remember, Indy Air was saying these same things. And I'm not doubting your company's ability to do it. My original intentions were to point out that SAT, a city where 18% lives below the poverty line, isn't necessarily going to be a huge untapped market. How many people in SAT have business in SMF anyway?

Hmmmm.

Got to give it to him. That wasn't at all facetious or sarcastic, and the points are valid.

Hate the prospect that he might be correct, don’t hate the man.

FlyI didn't just fail because of it's CRJ's. The business plan is completely different, and I seriously doubt that XJT will go to Airbus or Boeing for some larger equipment. Like the Captain said, even Wall Street is starting to realize that.

Besides, the branded flying does not represent the bulk of ExpressJet Holdings' business.

Have you checked the price of fuel and the state of the economy lately vs. this time last year and the previous year?

Yep... LR's and XR's vs. ER's. More fuel efficient, longer range, less weight restrictions.

Not "overgrowth" at all... We are operating the same equipment we always have. Just serving a different customer. We didn't need to "acquire" new planes, new pilots, new contracts, and have new training thrown in.

Correct... no arguement there. Of course there is an investment in the actual business that will need to be made up... no different that any business plan. If we do break even... then we've kept hundreds of pilots, thousands of employees gainfully employed, and lots of airframes out of the desert, equaling success for the economy.

Indy wasn't saying the same thing at all... They were saying... "Same crappy economy, Same business plan (hub & spoke, same base), same markets as a DIRECT Competitor... their old "mothership", let's add a new fleet type and totally spend our money, different company".

Regarding the 18% below the poverty line... I personally haven't researched that so good on you for the google. But I do know that folks in higher paygrades than me did reserch it and thought it to be a good time to hit this market. (Not saying that people in higher paygrades are smarter than you and me... just saying they were paid to devote a lot of time and energy to that specific point).

In addition... the 18% is not our market focus nor the "untapped market" we are looking at. We are being marketed toward the "business" traveler. Making life a bit more efficient for these guys at rates competitive with (not discounted from) the Major's in that market now... without the hassle of connecting/misconnecting in a city that is hundreds of miles and a few hours in the opposite direction of their destination.

Remember... SAT is a very small percentage part of our overall plan... so arguing this one city will not make or break this airline.

In addition to all that... our plan is fluid and flexible... if SAT does end up being stale like you say... we remove a route or two and place those aircraft on the routes that are successful in another part of the country. Something that a Regional working under a CPA does not have the ability to do.

We can argue all day on how XJT is going to do with this new venture. But lets face it only time will tell how they do. This industry is so weird who the heck knows.

Good luck to them!
