Default Fly or be Flown?

This is something that a few friends brought up the other night when we were out. So I thought that I would see what the responses were from those in the industry. I am curious to see the outcome from those currently doing this flying thing for a living!

If it's your damn plane you can elect to pay for your type rating and fly up there yourself.

Somebody's thinking. It's me.

I would rather fly, but sometimes I have to be flown.

I'd like to fly, but yet still have enough money to hire some pilots to fly me in my plane.

I'm actually curious - my company is thinking of signing on with NetJets. I'm sure this is a long shot, but any chance they'll let me ride jump seat sometime? I'd never ask, but I was just curious if there's even a small possibility that it might be offered to me some day.

Is the cockpit big enough for a jumpseat?

The short answer is no. I have never heard of this being done, although some of our fleets (and a few Citation Xs) do have jumpseats. You would have to be a guest of the owner, it would never be done as a guest of NetJets. The only people on board owner flights are the owner(s) and the crew.

The other consideration is "IF" you jumpseated, you would have no way of getting back home.

There's no view like that out the front.

I'd still like to have the kind of scratch that I can dictate when and where I take in that view out the front.

I'm with frog on this one. For once I'd like to look at the aircraft ads on FlyingMag and at least think I could afford it.
