Default Question from my dad

Hey guys, i know i have sorta beat this subject to death, but my dad still questions me about my wanting to go to University of Oklahoma instead of ERAU. So this is the question he wants answered. "Is a degree from Embry Riddle more appealing to airlines then other schools with an aviation curriculum such as University of Oklahoma?"

From what I've been told...it's about having an education, meeting the time requirements, passing the various oral portions of an interview, passing the sim eval, and being someone that they will want to sit next to a captain in a multi million dollar airplane.

Nope. Go to UofO and major in something you like besides aviation.

Here's the easy way. If you like chicks, then go to OU. If you heart men, ERAU it is.

ERAU is dominated by men, and the few females there look like men (just what I have been told)

The only thing that ERAU might help you with is networking; a lot of people there are in aviation so it might be helpful later on when trying to get someone to walk in your resume. Is that worth 140k to you?

FF, I'm starting to see the real you.

For your education in the broader sense, OU will give you the opportunity to take electives that may otherwise not be offered at ERAU, which has a more focused curriculum. Example: if you are interested in paleontology and just want to take some electives, then OU is the place.

State college would be my suggestion

Most of the guys complaining about women at ERAU probably would be complaining about women at ASU!

I have to agree with everyone here. Stick with OU and forget Embry Riddle. Also, try to major in something other than aviation. It is always good to have a backup plan.

Go to Norman, have a good time. KOSN is right there, so you could take lessons on the side. What field of study are you interested in?

man, ERAU is just toooo expensive...

I remember seing at flight training magazine they were rated #1 for aviation university though

as far as 'backup' plan goes, that is your wish... mostly everyone here will say have a backup plan....

Why do people keep thinking this? Haven't we killed this one dead, by now? How many more times do we have to shoot this myth?

Major in something else if you want to, but unless it's engineering or the like, it matters not, because a bachelors is not going to allow you to "fall back" on it anyway, with VERY few exceptions.

Get the degree in the subject you like and can complete the fastest with all your ratings, so you can get a job and start building time SOONER. 6 months difference in getting hired at a major could easily cost you 7 figures over your life time.

Hey,

Riddle must have one hell of a marketing scam down there. I was considering that school until I read this forum...good thing.

Save the money and go to a state college, so much cheaper and cost-effective if your going to flight school also. I will be graduating a state college with only 6 grand in debt whereas if I went to private, it would be well over 30 or 40. No joke either. Just my advice, make up your own mind tho.

Well i do plan on getting a minor in Business. OU's aviation degree is largely all business classes.

From what I've been told the airlines don't care where you got your ratings but just that you have them. In other words they don't care whether you got your ratings from ERAU or from some small FBO.

Also, definitely get a backup degree. That's what I plan on doing as well.
