Angry Son of A .......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, I just got back from the docs office and he said my blood pressure was down, a lot from what it use to be. I have been working my butt off to eat right and running a lot, Proud to say I have lost 9 lbs since my last visit, and my blood pressure is down still a little high, but in the normal range.

I'm trying to get into shape and get all my documents ready to submit my resume to a few airlines....so as I was leaving the docs office to go back to work for a flight this afternoon.....won't you know it, a stupid cop, pops outta no where and gets me for speeding .....AAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!! He said I was doing 51 in a 40, 11 miles over...the fine is $150.00.

I really wasn't paying attention. I was so happy that I was back into the good range on my blood pressure and I lost weight. And this guy just burst my bubble. Man I was soooo mad, not that I was speeding but because he caught me.

Would it be wise to still submit my resume to a few airlines, with this ticket so recent. I will disclose everything that I have done. This would be my second speeding ticket in about a 3 or 4 year time frame. And hopefully my last.....But man I think my blood pressure still might be in on the high side with this happening today

I got hired where I am a few weeks after getting a speeding ticket. I guess it depends on where you're trying to go. I don't think that it will be a problem with all the hiring that is going on now.

There are lot's of way to keep it off of your record... I'd use them. It may be more expensive now... but it will be cheaper in the long run regarding insurance... and you won't have to worry about the question of the airlines wondering why you have too many speeding tickets.

Once you have time to settle down, give the paragraph another look. We pilots call that thought process something...

I spent some quality time in the Pima County Justice courts today with a local lawyer who, it turns out, knew just about all the judges down there. We got the fines I incurred reduced to almost nothing (they were for absolute BS non-moving violations, which is why they got reduced so much) and the total cost of the remaining fine plus the attorney was 1/2 of the original fine. I might have been able to handle it myself, but this way there is absolutely nothing on my record and it took a lot of the stress out of it.

11 over?

Now, I have to say...speeding is bad, drunk driving is even worse. But 11 over? Holy cow, someone was being anal.

My 28 over a couple years back (98 in a 70). . . was a $150 fine from the GA Highway Patrol. Plus to keep it off my record, and eventually reduced, I paid a probation fee (to keep my license - that the judge worked with me on) of $20 for 6 months, as well as keeping a clean driving record for that 6 month period or else she gets to take my license for a year. So all in all, $150 for the fine - $20 x 6 for the probation, it was a costly first speeding ticket. Learned real quick.

$150 for eleven over is pretty damn high. What city / state / county was this? Was it a highway patrol or a local cop?

Oh yeah, I bet. The fines vary by county in GA, even for Highway patrol tickets, so I got very lucky going through one of the more bumkin counties in ERN Georgia before Augusta.

Honestly though, I was doing 110. Silly, dumb, 20 year old idea coming back to Columbia after a weekend in Atlanta. Learned fast never to do anything more than 10-15 over the speed limit on GA Highways (at least that's what the Highway Patrolman told me was a safe speed to stay ticketless). With my uniform hanging in the backseat I'm pretty sure he nudged it down to 98 so he didn't have to do any more paperwork, or screw me over for it only being my first ticket of any kind. Like I said, I learned my lesson.

Another bit of information concerning my ticket. The nexttime I went home, I had already paid the fine and thought my troubles were over with. Nope. I have a letter in my mail at my mothers place from the GA Department of Public Safety telling me to suspend my license to the nearest police department or to mail it to the public safety office. Well, ####. I live in SC, this is going to be tough now.

Turns out, that the year while I was out of state, the state legislature passed a law that suspends drivers' licenses if they are ticketed for 20 mph over and if they are under the age of 21. Well, I was 20.

I called the magistrate judge for the county that the ticket was in, and she understood and was pretty damn nice about the whole deal and cut me some slack considering my government position, being out of the state for 2 years and not knowing the change in the law, and well. . . just being nice. Put me on probabtion for 6 months with the terms I stated earlier.

Yup, I got off good, and the ticket was eventually reduced to 78 in a 70.

As reckless as I use to drive as a teenager, I've been lucky to never get a ticket. I do know that in some states you can pay double the fine to keep it off the record or something? Maybe traffic school is cheaper.

I wouldn't worry too much about it though, focus on your new job.

Just got a speeding ticket last week on Frank Lloyd Wright (you PHX people probably know where I'm talking about) in Scottsdale for $162 for going 11 over!!! It wasn't even a cop but those stupid automatic cameras they have around here. It was basically my fault though because I knew it was there but I was busy talking to someone in the car and didn't even notice until I saw the flash! I think I know some people who might be able to take care of it though.

She did sound a little cute. . . and well, if it was required, it would of been done.

In all honestly, she sounded pretty old. Plus, it was bumpkin-ville GA. Prolly not the best area to want to take care of a magistrate judge.

I got flashed there about 6 months ago. I was only 8 over though. When I went to defensive driving, they told me that the limitations are 11mph over on the 101 (at the time) and only 6mph over on FLW. I live just east of FLW and the 101, so I know EXACTLY where you're talking about. For all the PHXer's out there, keep that in mind.

I HATE speeding cameras. Nothing but revenue generators. Lucky for me, some smart lawyer filed a lawsuit(I don't know what the terms were) on behalf of a few people in my town and speeding cameras were declared unconstitutional in my city and now my state. Hey, a lawyer doing some good! What I think is hilarious, is my city is going to have to refund all that money they generated from these things as well spend the money to take them down.

I think they've done this in MN too. A good direction to be going in. We don't need to turn this into a police state any more than it already is.

its the end of the month. traffic cars are itching to scratch tickets so dont give them an excuse. if you were goin 11 over in the first week of the month i dont think they would have looked twice. my uncle who does traffic for the sheriff's department in los angeles said its all about timing. go to court fight it see if you can get traffic school and do it online. good luck to you. and congrats on losing the weight and dropping the bp.

I wonder, would you have that same attitude towards speed limits in Class B or C airspace? If not, then why do you have it in the car?

One thing I have noted in my lifetime is that the best pilots seem to be the worst drivers. Not due to lack of skill, but due to lack of caring. My very first flight instructor was a stickler for observing rules and limitations in the plane, and then would go tear-a$$ing around corners and hauling a$$ down back country roads, 20-25 mph over the limit. Granted he was a youngster, but what kind of message did that send to his students? A confused one at best.

Was it at night? The speed limit drops from 75 to 65 at night in Texas.

I don't see anything wrong with cornering fast, or driving down back roads over the speed limit. So long as you possess the proper skill to do so, as well as the presence of mind to recognize the proper place to do it and when to slow down. Yeah, there's the risk of getting at ticket, but if you're gona drive in such a manner you have to pay to play.

Where abouts did you get the ticket, I live out in Plano, TX and the Cops out here don't give any breaks when it comes to speeding....A while back I was doing 8 miles over at night, and I didn't pull over right away. I drove for about another mile to mile and a half into a 7/11, that's a well lit area....I don't think he liked that at all, he was pretty pissed, and still gave me a ticket, I think I paid about $120 and went to traffic school

Lets not forget that speeding in the air means going over 200kts in busy airspace and above 250 everywhere else. Something I'm not comfortable with. It's differeant than going 90-100 on the ground in a car. You're still breaking the rules, but the hazards are different.
