So does X-plane use the actual topo maps of the US? That should be available as a download at least.

I thought they all used stuff from the USGS, but I could be wrong. X-Plane just never did it for me. I see all of these claims about modeling lift and vectors and whatever, but with the right aircraft added into MSFS, it felt much more stable and realistic. I haven't flown a PC-based flightsim for a long time now, but I doubt X-Plane will ever stray from its roots. Also, I think that X-Plane is more popular with real aircraft designers and manufacturers because it allows them to put in more detailed flight modeling data and see outputs of their airfoils and surfaces. I think MSFS can be just as realistic in response if you have an in-depth knowledge of the .cfg files and how they are handled by the simulator. |
