Just came across this website from a link on my flight schools home page. Im an Irish student (name is a bit of a giveaway huh :P ), starting training for my JAA soon. Was at university for last 3 years doing Aero Eng (Bachelor) always wanted to fly couldnt afford to do both realised I realistically most prob was never going to practice my degree, so this year took the bull by the horns dropped out in my final yr applied to flight schools, got accepted starting my course Feb 26th. Im training from a school here in Ireland, but we get sent to Florida (Vero beach, Flight safety international) for two months for hour building and ppl exams in Feb. Weather is crappy here around that time. Just wondering has anyone heard of the school in florida? Whats its rep like? Cheers Maria

Hey There... Welcome to the boards. Flightsafety is a pretty reputable school. Just curious... Did you get selected by an airline in Ireland to be sent to training or are you doing this all on your own? The reason I ask is that I have heard of such "ab-initio" programs in Europe where the pilot will go from 0 hours to right seat of a 737 within a couple months. Good luck though!

I didnt get selected by an airline...there are very few schools that do sponsorships now. None is Ireland. Air lingus used to do it but not anymore. Flight training europe in Jerez in spain do it though but they airline pays just a % of the cost not the full wack its about 100,000 euros for the course. They have links with ba and thompson. Im self sponsored...but I am doing it from pretty much 0 (Only have a few fun hours) to jaa Takes 14 months its pretty good.

We're glad your flight school has us listed, we didn't know any flight schools had us down as a link....and we're loving the fact that we're getting more non-US peeps on here too!! Also, LOVE ireland... went there two years ago for St. Patty's day and just had a blast.. of course, i only got to stay in Dublin for the day but I heard from my traveling companion that the west side is where it's at..as far as nature.. sights etc...Any recommendations on where to go when we decide to go back over? | ||

You only stayed in dublin...well shame, shame on you! West of Ireland is the best bit. Ok list of places to see... Best nightlife in Ireland pubs and clubs either Belfast or Galway. In Galway Roisin Dubh great great bar, lots of live bands. Belfast (well Im biased I went to uni there) is fantastic. You can visit giants causeway when that way as well if you wanna see some touristy stuff. Galway is close to cliffs of Moher Burren etcetc.(again all touristy stuff) Best time to visit Galway is in Sept, its the Guinness & Oyster festival fantastic craic. Lots of free booze and hot men :P Its a win win situation really lol Best time to visit cork is also in late sept/early oct its the jazz festival, city does be mental great fun. If you wanna get yourself a husband , we hold the lisdoonvarna matchmaking festival around late august time lol Ive been a few times with my gf's just for the craic dont want the husband! Its good fun, mostly American tourists though. Then from Feb through March we have the 6 nations (rugby). A game every weekend(Not all played in Ireland...but will be on tv) so Dublin is great then, temple bar goes a bit insane and well if Ireland win...you wont remember the night lol Its always good here when England lose. Yes I know what your saying about back up career its always something you need, I have all my credits can do distance learning if I want to finish. Its nice to have a fall back plan...a 'just in case'...takes off some of that pressure! Oh btw this isa great website...its deadly. Lots of information very useful. Its genius.
