How are the ground controllers coping with the new right turn only policy at UPS?

It takes 3 rights turns to equal one left....what are they thinking? This all sounds fine, but....its just crazy...

| Super Moderator | Yes, but think about the 'red light' situation. For the most part you cannot make a left turn on red. While you can on the right. Less Idling time and with the amount of trucks UPS has that adds up very fast.......

It is also a case that UPS does a lot of circling around a neighborhood, so although you might think it is not very smart - when they think of the roads they cover the number of rights is equal to the number of lefts, rather then having to do 3 times as many. I also think another motivation is less accidents - turning left is riskier. |

"but Atlanta-based United Parcel Service (UPS) swears by it" HAHAHA.... So typical UPS. They want me to taxi on one engine, too. Guess I should be shuttin' down the right one.... |

if you're gunna be out of the truck for "a few seconds" wouldn't it waste more gas to restart that big brown Ugly Piece of Something?

It sounds like they're using their software to avoid right turns where possible, but not banning them completely. I worked as a temp driver for FedEx Home Delivery a couple winters ago and they had software map out your routes. It wasn't perfect, but gererally ok. For example, I'd find more efficient ways to deliver in quiet neighborhoods where stopping and crossing the street to a house on the left side was no problem, although the software was set up to avoid that.
