booked the tickets in July...no idea the snow storm would be here
im not blaming it on UA. the problem i had with UA was that i purchased a business class ticket, then they rebooked me on the 23rd in coach but would not refund the difference in a coach ticket. so i would have paid for a business class ticket, but flown in coach....did not sit well with me.

Did you eventually get rebooked in Business Class? I would think that if you booked in Business and rebooked in coach, they'd have to refund? Anyone else......

Hell, they cancelled the Nuggets game due to the snow. It must be really nasty there.

On the other hand, that season pass to Breck/A-Basin/Keystone is looking really good now!

Flying over DEN enroute to SLC this afternoon (wed.), center said that KDEN is closed until 7:30pm -->THURSDAY<--- and most of the diversionary airports around Denver are out of gas.

It's more or less the end of the world in Colorado.

Oh man, it was crazy over there today. Here are some pictures I took on the UAX ramp with my horrible camera phone around 11am. I'm sure it is WAY worse now. In the parking lot of my apartment complex (in Aurora) all you can see is bumps in the snow where cars should be. Thankfully I decided to make my escape around noon and I got home around 2 hours later (normally a 15 minute drive). I've got friends who decided to stick around for a while that are now stuck for who knows how long.

They are saying they dont know if they will open it tomorrow night....Snow at 3 in/hour. They sent in a plane from California to test the landing conditions at the airport...Later tonight they are supposedly attempting a take-off.
Good news is that a UA flight from SFO landed in Colorado Springs tonight...the first traffic the airport saw in over 12 hours.

Ahhh, not so fast my friend... it's a classic uplift storm... If you are west of the divide you probably aren't even experiencing much from this storm.

The low moving from the 4 corners area to the east brings winds from east that rub up agains the mountains. When the air rises up due to terrain (orographic uplift) is when you get the biggest storms on the Front Range but typically the mountains miss out.

On that note, I will be driving from So. Cal. tomorrow making my way back to Denver for the holidays. Hopefully they can get the plows out by tomorrow.

Anyone know if snowmass is getting any of this wintery goodness? I'll be there in 2 weeks and wouldn't mind a couple inches of fresh powder....

Here's a link to some pics I took starting yesterday when the storm hit:
http://community.webshots.com/slide...nsBox/Slideshow

Attached is a picture of my front porch from about 30 mins ago. Still snowing and we have at least 2 ft in my yard right now. There's 40 inches where I used to live (Conifer). No work for me today

Hey Doug...I was also enroute to SLC from SDF. Wonder if we were there about the same time? I was suppose to go to DEN but was rescheduled to SLC instead due to DEN being closed. I was trying to figure out how I was going to do an autoland in a 37kt blizzard with RVR of 1000ft and 11 inches of snow...NOT!

There are worse airports than DIA to be stuck in, man. I've been stranded there and it was about as pleasant as it's possible to be stuck in an airport. Now, getting stuck in LGA or JFK would be hell on earth, and MDW before they renovated it. And MEM.

But DIA is all right...

You are right! Breck got five inches over the last 24 hours and Denver's got two feet plus. Hardly seems right, eh? Throw in a wind chill of -12 and only the hardcore would be out there. Of course, that includes me. Throw on some thermals and a baclava and I'm good to go!
