Here is a question I have guys... Do the airlines (RJs to start off with I guess) hire only US citizens? or do they also hire people with green cards, or people with work permits? I mean when I look at their requirements for applying, I never saw something that said must be US citizen etc. and all the other countries' airlines hire non citizens, so I was curious... I guess as long as the pilot is a good pilot with some hours, thats all they want eh? |

thats what I figured... I guess they rather hire a real good pilot that isnt a US citizen rather then an ok pilot that is a US citizen |

no a work permit doesn't require a sponsorship... a sponsorship is required if the company needs to get you a work permit... |

Here are our requirements, and I would say that it would depend on what country you're a citizen of: Eligibility for rapid visa issuance, issued by offices in the United States to fly to any FedEx destination. Ability to obtain clearance from United States Postal Service for handling or access to U.S. mail, which includes FBI fingerprint check, and candidate must have resided in the United States for the last five consecutive years (except for U.S. military assignments) Eligibility for issuance of US Security Clearance |

All that's required (as far as residency) is the legal right to live and work in the U.S. Some airlines specify that you also need to have the right to make mulitple entrances/exits from the U.S. too. Depends on the operation of that particular airline/company. There are other 'security' requirements that may need to be me too, such as fingerprinting, security clearances, etc. It's not just a U.S. thing either. Just for fun I looked into working for British Airways several years ago, and they require the right to live and work in the U.K. Pretty logical.

thx for the responses you too... being a foreigner I already actually had to do the fingerprinting and FBI background check through TSA so they know i'm no threat to US.... also I've been in this country since 1996 so i should be good (been a student since '96)plus my gf and I are talking about marriage so i'm sure by the time i'm done with all my ratings and such I will have my work permit or whatever I need to be a regional pilot... do we have any non US citizen RJs (or major airliners) here? |
