Edit: What is the current upgrade time for captain at your airlines? Also, does the new captain sit reserve for a while? Last but not least, are you able to commute as a first year F/O? Boo Yah!!

Do you like chicken picatta with lemon caper sauce? Nah, just kidding. I just re-wrote the post. I didnt want to drag out some lengthy thread for just a few questions.

To save some bated breath waiting for an answer, by the time you reach either, it will either be longer or shorter. Career progression is not measurable, reliable or guaranteed. It can literally (and often) change tomorrow. It's like asking "How's the daily special today?" when you won't be at the diner for 6 to 18 months from then.

First of all, upgrade times vary A LOT. Second, time spent on reserve is comprised of many factors such as growth and attrition. Third, of course you can commute as a first year FO. The difficulty of commuting is contingent on what city pairs you're traveling on and whether your airline is CASS or not. Info for Skywest: A Brasilia FO was just awarded Brasilia CA with a hire date of 3/13/2006 A CRJ FO was just awarded CRJ CA with a hire date of 11/22/2004

I'm starting month two of being on the line and I commute to a smaller city. So yeah commuting is possible but you gotta be smart about it. It might suck to have to go out the night before but if you gotta do it you gotta do it.

AWAC is around three years, with several months if not more of reserve. Things move slower for a privately held airline. You live out west so there'd be no reason to NOT go to skywest. They have a much better track record for growth and a management team that wants to grow. All AWAC cares about is finding homes for their planes while they still have the leases. I don't really forsee much growth. Plus you'd get to fly the EMB. Maybe the Q400 soon. I wish AWAC still had the 328's.
