Good, thanks for the example. I'm a military dude, so I am not familiar with the part 121 and 135 rules. I'm not trying to trick anyone into revealing something so I can go rat on it to the FAA. When I watched the video, I didn't see anything that seemed questionable, but that's seemingly due to my own ignorance and why I asked for some more detail.

What is generally thought of as having a "sterile cockpit"? Does it specifically say that cameras aren't allowed?

Interesting, though...there are tons and tons of photos on airliners.net taken from inside the cockpit -- photos of inside, photos of outside, etc. Nobody there seems to be cowering in their boots that the FAA is gonna jump in and violate them, and they openly post their names to the photos they post.

As an aside, in the USAF fighter community it's also against the regs to have a camera in the cockpit. And, because of that, you never see photos taken from inside a fighter cockpit

Aren't sterile cockpit rules only in affect until above/below 10,000 ft.?

Taking videos in critical phases of flight is unsafe and a violation of FAR part 121. I will never fly skywest again. I am sending a copy of this to the FAA.

That's pretty funny. There's no way to tell from that video who took it, and weather or not the guy taking the shots was a Capt or F/O. In other words...impossible just from the video to tell if a violation of 121.542 (b) or (c) occurred (I Googled Part 121 to check it out for myself).

Another poster had it right...people like that need to get back to the elementary school playground where tattle-tales belong.

looks like in critical phases of flight the camera is just lodged up on the dash near the window...i dont see how that could be really distracting

but...whatever.

Don... Sorry, thought you knew... it's a certain friend of ours who is ignorant of the terrain, weather, animals and culture... and who apparently can't drive for cra* in the snow...

At the request of the author and considering the situation revolving around people trying to actively rat him out to the FAA and potentially effecting his employment, I can't in good conscious have that link on my website.

I'm sorry bro, I'm as "free speech" as the next guy, but his liability is perilously high and he's been a high value to the community here (and many folks he helped get their first job at an airline) and I'm respecting his wishes.

Word.

Unfortunately, it's posted so much throughout all the aspiring pilots myspace pages...
