I am doing the self paced program at Arlington now. I started the Private May 5 and finished August 3rd. I started the 10 month August 30th. I earned my multi September 17th. I am now working on the instrument. Overall I am happy. I have had a few classes cancelled due to a 90 dayer needing the plane or my instructor. Not a big deal. I have been able to get extra time as well when ready for a checkride. I am going 4 times a week which is probably more than most 10 monthers go. I should be done in March. Turnover for instructors is pretty high as they are getting hiring at least one new one a month. I have had the same instructor throughout, but he is leaving this week for Pinnacle. I thought about going next door to Skymates, but ATP has a more structured appearance and the cost between the two isn't that big of a difference. Be sure to at least give them a shot. Different strokes for different folks. Potato/Potatoe.

Stillageek - Do you have to fly 8 (8 hour days a month?) or do they let you fly after work? I would hate to have to give up all my weekends for 10 months.

No I set my own schedule. I go afterwork. I work 7-4 in Arlington. I get to the airport around 4:20 and start around 4:30. I go until I am sufficient in the topic of the day or 7PM whichever comes first. On weekends I go in around 10AM Sunday or maybe later in the afternoon. My instructor is pretty flexible. I initially went 6 times a week. That lasted for 2 weeks. Burned out. I found the perfect mix is 4 times leaving 1 night for freedom and 2 nights for the wife. She is afterall helping foot the bill for this pilot stuff. I got lucky and married a woman waaay smarter than me who makes great money looking at DNA all day.
