| Old Skool | So i give a call to my former CFI to check in with hows he doing. To my knowledge he's in training at Skywest. Oops, that's out the window. After a little talking he spills the beans. He was accepted both to an American Eagle Interview on the ERJ out of ORD and the Bro at Skywest. He rejected his first job acceptance at Eagle because his life long goal was skywest. Well while into his training, he decides to hang it all up. Get out of aviation as a thing of income. Left on the best possible terms with everyone at Eagle and Skywest. His major factors being: Not willing to sacrifice anymore, tired of it, wants to settle down and have a family, not willing to put up with first few years pay, and he thinks he's getting older (28). Anyways, i was majorly dissappointed as this guy was an awesome guy. Real down to earth etc. It sucks another great aviator hangs up his wings, but apparently it's for the best of him. Hopefully he will stay current if he ever changes his mind for some reason... |

| Old Skool | Interesting. So his dream was to get to Skywest, he gets there. . . then realizes it's not what he expected and just quits. Bummer. Don't we all? |

Absolute bummer. This guy was majorly my role model, so i lost a little determination. He did tell me he'll be at my FBO occassionaly, and he'll fly with me if i'd like to. He did tell me to keep trucking along. His goals in life have changed though.

| "I personally think his GF had a huge factor in him denying the job offers." That would be a huge mistake... |

As I told Sherv on the phone don't let it bum you out. Everybody has a set of different priorities in life he may come back to aviation he may not. It's all about what makes him happy or not and a career in aviation isn't cut out for everyone!

| Exactly (I concur with MAX) everyone has different situations to deal with, have different backgrounds, experiences, emotions, and principles. Yeah Sherv sorry to hear one of your personnal role models took a different turn from what you've expected, its life man, just be happy for him in whatever his decision is and if hes happy then be happy for him. As I have mentioned and ill stress it again First thing that came to my mind when you told me about him is that his GF came into play. I mean a when a MAN dreams he dreams and goes for it B*lls out. two things that ususally changes a mans course is either, maturity- realization through research, a traumatic experience, change of taste. or B A woman. im not bashing or am Sexist, its true, women play a huge role in influencing a mans actions and decisions. As I said again Best of luck to him and be happy for him and let it be a lesson for you yourself to not let anyone affect what YOU WANT. (referring to a girlfriend.)

| I have had this dream/goal all my life. Born into it. I'm 35 and working on my ppl. I'm old and am not giving up. I also have a wonderful daughter. My ex gf said she thought she was in my way of becoming a pilot. I disagreed (sp). If they don't support your goals and you have made it clear what the goals are, ditch them before they break you. |

| I refuse to think I am too old! I am almost 37 and just got my PPL two months ago....never....give.....up! I'm just starting. Then again, I tried the whole married, domestic life think and that didn't work, so now my dream of flying has taken over.

[/quote] Man, 32 years old, feeling pretty spry and youthful on my way to work this morning, now i read this and I'm searching my office for my bottle of geritol. I know it is around here somewhere......if only I could remeber to take the gingko beloba..... If I listened to all the people telling me how "too old" I was I would have quit life about two years ago, just deposited my check every week and buckled in waiting to die. Your friend has his reasons and they are valid for him, but please try not to let his reasons discourage you at all, otherwise all my naysayers may have a point! |

| Old Skool | Letting someone else "decide" that for you is a HUGE mistake even if you do, in fact, want those kinds of things out of life because in the end there will always be a little bit of resentment for "making me ..."

Hmmm guess not. When you, A) get hired at SKW (or any airline for that matter) and B) pass indoc, systems, FTD and SIM, then maybe you can say somethin' like that. Untill then, well ...
