Default Question for all you New Yorkers

So a few buddies and myself will be up in NYC from Nov 2- Nov 5. We are interested in renting a plane to fly over the statue of liberty and stuff like that, not into the actual city where the buildings ar. I have 263 Hours and am instrument rated. Any ideas of places to get checked out at and rent from, or websites? Thanks!

you can try Nassau flyers in FRG. old planes but well maintained. its about a 45min train ride from Penn station on the LIRR. nice flight from there too, get to dodge JFK's Class B or go through it while dodging LGA's airspace and dont forget EWR.

Mid Island Air Service is also pretty good, but they're further out on Long Island (KISP, KHWV). However, many people have rented from them to do the hudson river tour. Well-maintained planes too.

Try Pegusus flight school in Linden NJ. Bout as close as you are going to get unless you can find something in TEB. They have a 172.

You don't want flight following in the exclusion. You should be on the Hudson self reporting frequency (123.05) making position reports. Familiarize yourself with the local reporting points/landmarks. There are helicopter charts out there with very detailed info. Road maps will help too. PM me if you want more info.

I've found that if you're on with approach, flight following takes a big burden (although doesn't relieve you of your duties of see + avoid) off of your shoulders, as approach will be pointing traffic out to you. They will also hand you off nicely to the next controller, whom you will tell what you want to do. You can even ask to fly directly over LGA, remain south of the 2 bridges (Throgs Neck and Whitestone) before continuing on your way.
